Disturbing rumors that the Lightning and Mach-E may be finished

In their current format. This battery issue is systemic and foundational. It sounds like it's back to the drawing board and that both vehicles will no longer be produced in their current iteration. I heard this on fairly good Intel. And now the rush is on to get the next gen of Ford EVs ready for production.

If this is true it's not good. It could take a while for the next gen to be ready. And by then Ford will be further behind Tesla and passed by several other competitors. It also shows that being first to market is great for hype, but can cost you down the line.

I hope for our sakes that this isn't true. If so, 2023 is going to be a nightmare for the company and we the employees.

Why didn't they mock the battery up in cardboard using design thinking to eliminate these problems with Lightning and Mache.
Where is Jim Hackett that useless S-B who screwed so many people during his time at Ford.
What a clown, what a schlamazel, what a maroon and that is being mean to clowns, schlamazels and maroons.
Just Chris Farley was up next.
Man, that was ugly when he jimbo played up his cousin for tweets - sick.
We could use a real car guy now - not a car guy in his own mind guy like farley.
What is scary is that after farley is chased out we will get doug fields who looks to be the most non car guy i have seen in a high position at ford.
just a big phone with wheels.
He will fix it all!

@cxv+1lcab5QC - Like they found the issue with the Explorer rear toe links in the first recall? Two recalls in two years and I am still waiting for 6 months for the part to arrive at the dealership. This is a safety recall as it can affect the handling of the vehicle. Great root cause analysis. I wonder if the blackbelt on this task applied the 2D or 3D methodology. Seems like no one is left in the company with any knowledge or common sense.

Ford EV”s are nothing more than battery smoke and rear view mirrors.

Who would ever trust putting their family in a Ford?

One word, NEVER!

Ford is not being transparent until the real truth comes out.

They said it was found post-production, or before shipping. No mention of fire until that leaked.

Ford lies, people die.

Ford is being fully transparent with this report. Do not blow it out of proportion.

@1lrl+1lcab5QC the fact that mach-e and f150 still had real ford engineers on them are the only thing holding them together.

And here it is!

https://www.foxbusiness.com/lifestyle/ford-battery-fire-caused-lightning-production-stoppage

"A Ford spokeswoman told FOX Business that the company believes it has identified the root cause of the problem and that the investigation should be completed by the end of this week, but that it could be several weeks before production restarts."

🤣

Lightning = 💀

Cybertruck will eat it's lunch. Rivian already has been. When they REV and Silverado E hit the market it will be game over.

Perhaps Lightning and Mach-e weren't “born and fully developed within the very new Model e division under Doug Field,” but they are all Model e has. Keep pumping your dreams, because Model e is just smoke and mirrors.

Lightning and Mach-e are not exactly Model e products, meaning, they weren't born and fully developed within the very new Model e division under Doug Field. Those vehicles were under the old Ford.

True Model e products with the best we have to offer are on the way.

Don’t kid yourself. A stop ship is the 3rd rail of the automobile business. You NEVER publicly admit your product is cr-p (even if it is). How long have we been fixing Broncos at Roush now? Thankfully I haven’t been by there lately but is the benchmarking center lot still full?
What about Explorers before that? Thousands trucked from CAP to Roush to be fixed.
To publicly admit that your quality sucks is so far beyond bad it’s incomprehensible!
I really feel for all of you left - really sad to watch the company implode like this.

Detroit News reports is was a Lightning that caught fire that prompted the shutdown.

Where there’s smoke there is a Ford EV.

@cxv+1lcab5QC yep, it is a long time to be down. On a model that already struggles to be produced at target. This is definitely NOT nothing. In fact, it's back up on production after next week I'll be surprised.

Also, recalls are coming for the ones on the road.

This "issue" was nothing and totally blown out of proportion.

Lets focus on real issues.

That’s a long time to be down and a lot of vehicles that need to be fixed, another debacle Farley owns:

UPDATE 2/15/23: Ford issued a fresh statement on Wednesday afternoon stating that it has figured out what the problem is with the F-150 Lightning's battery. The automaker is now saying production at the Rouge Electric Vehicle Center will be suspended "through at least the end of next week," which will be February 24 or later. "During a standard Lightning pre-delivery quality inspection, one vehicle displayed a battery issue. We believe we have identified the root cause of this issue. By the end of next week, we expect to conclude our investigation and apply what we learn to the truck’s battery production process; this could take a few weeks. We will continue holding already-produced vehicles while we work through engineering and process updates.
"We are not aware of any incidents of this issue in the field and do not believe F-150 Lightnings already in customers’ hands are affected by this issue," the Ford statement said.

It's even worst, in case you haven't seen the videos, Hoovies is a well known automotive youtube influencer who posts videos about buying and selling various kinds of cars. He bought an F-150 Lighting and complained about his range being significantly less than the advertised range. Within a day of trading in his F-150 lighting back to the dealership the battery on his F-150 lighting completely failed and apparently had to have a battery replacement. This is not an encouraging for all the F-150 that have already been sold and likely indicates that there will be ongoing issues and recalls in the coming months.

This is nothing new. Ford PD have known about the problems for the last 2 years. Since, there has been no major safety concerns Ford did nothing about it - until now.

@OP. Why am I not surprised? We keep rushing products to the market, skipping quality control, while we cut corners with suppliers. There is a reason why things were done in a certain way. Just bringing a bunch of unexperienced guys to "disrupt" the existing processes before understanding it, doesn't "magically" fix things.

Hey BF, JF! Is the company already enough "disrupted" for your taste? A--holes!
