I have to admit that I was a little surprised by all this because, despite everything, I thought that this company had a better plan for the future.
If I'm not good enough no longer needed here while those who have only been there for a few months are being promoted, why should I stay to help with the transition in order to get severance pay?
This is all very humiliating.

And the campus will say, “just like we do. Because it’s a business.”
I second the "undermine" POV. Tell the campus what Follett is really doing and how they make a profit at the expense of their people.
How do you know this isn’t a good plan? We’ve never tried this before…it’s a fresh approach to a long-term problem.
Listen, and understand. That terminator is out there. It can’t be bargained with. It can’t be reasoned with. It doesn’t feel pity, or remorse, or fear. And it absolutely will not stop, ever, until Jefferson River Capital makes profit on it's investment.
Nearly 10 years ago more than 600 people were sent walking. Many of those who remained were demoted and reclassified. All were left asking the same questions you've posed. That was another ownership group, but the betrayal is the same.
If you stay to claim the severance, undermine.
