One year in- the majority of work emails go unanswered

I've noticed the majority of people just don't respond to emails. They don't respond to skype im or teams...It just appears to me if you send an email to two people they will just ignore it and think the other will answer...because some people will not due there job others start to cut corners and wallllaaa...breaking policies, procedures and eventually get WF in trouble.. am I just in bad area or is this company wide?

Tech here. I've noticed that whatever the problem of the moment happens to be, it's urgency always decreases with time. Very often, problems seem to either go away or simply were not important in the first place. "Ignore it, it will go away" is an effective mindset to have here, and will reduce your stress.

Annual review process puts teammates in competition with each other. Taking time to help you DOES NOT add value for the person you asked. I saved all of the emails from people who I helped during the year. I got a below expectation ratings where people on my team who just ignored requests for help got meets or higher. My boss told me that that activity did not help my rating. Now I delete the same requests.

Email has become useless because of all the spam and now they are making DMs spam central. Best to join them and not fight it.

I respond to navigation questions all the time. Where I turn the cold shoulder is when the same people ignore when answers were given and keep emailing as if it is Groundhog's Day. This happens too much and I absolutely cannot enable that behavior.

“My priorities are not their priorities “ or so I was told.

I never just flat out refuse to answer. You're going to get a response. Maybe not one you'd like, but you'll get one!

I'd say its systemic.
I generally send out 2-3 emails a week to teams outside of my 2 up but within my 3-4 up and sometimes totally separate orgs and generally get 0-1 response. These emails are not even to action items but general process flow questions ala "your name was passed as being related to X, can you tell me how your team should be engaged or if this should even go to you?". That is it, not trying to get any actions executed, no long drawn out requests, just how are customers to engage your team. And no response. I have to hit multiple people, managers, repeat contacts to get traction.

Emails are supposed to be answered within 24 hrs per WF communication policy. Many of my emails go unanswered. If after a week I have no reply, and it's important, I send it again and loop in their managers and call them on it, that usually gets a quick response and the answer to the question. I can understand @xtt, but if you feel that way, you should leave your post and go heal. If you're here and getting paid for a job, you should do it! That's called integrity.

After a while of working here you realize that you can't dictate the pace of play. WF doesn't compensate or reward you enough to take on the amount of stress involved of going against the grain.

If I send an email/IM and that is the appropriate method of contact for the situation at hand, I wait and wait and wait for reply. I hold others accountable and if they choose not to respond, that is on them. It is nothing personal.

I will not be an admin for others by constantly reminding or chasing after. WF seems to be ok with that approach and not a single part of my area in tech has ever posed any risk to the bank because of it.

Often I find that over time, some of the work vanishes into thin air anyways.

Yes this is my team too. I used to be the person who replied as fast as possible but that only made things worse for me. Now I do the same as them and am much less stressed and get significantly less work dumped on me. The people who ignore and do less have all got promoted so maybe it will work for me too.

I've received 47 emails so far today, and it's only 9:15 for most of my colleagues.

It could be their email volume (not you specifically). When you get 100 emails a day, choices need to be made on who is getting a response. I found the legacy people on my team overuse the cc line contributing to the unnecessary volume. I found our team had a prior CYA culture, and they felt by cc’ing the whole team or many stakeholders it increased transparency. If you overwhelm inboxes it has a reverse effect. People are missing key emails due to unnecessary cc’s.

With Skype, sometimes my alert doesn’t pop up and I don’t see it, and the missed Skype email is buried in my inbox. It’s not that people are all disengaged, we just need to work smarter and not send emails with so many cc’s. Rant over. :)

It happened to me all the time with my last team. I think it is the culture. I try to acknowledge emails right away.

I dont have an issue. while we get lots of email and things may occasionally get missed just send a follow up. as for teams, it isn't as good as Skype at letting you know someone is trying to reach you so very likely they just didnt see you tried to reach out

If this is in regards to within your department, yeah that's bad. For my area, we repeatedly see people who take advantage of us by thinking it's ok to email/IM directly without going through proper channels. It's unreal the amount of people who, despite being instructed otherwise, ignore the process and continue bugging as if we don't have our own fish to fry.

Babe.. it’s just that we collectively do not care anymore. With all that’s going on in the world, all of the deception and lies getting revealed. People are pi---d and want justice now before this keeps repeating over and over in different ways. No one has time for these mindless jobs, we all want to heal ourselves, find peace, love, and return to being a human again. The veil is lifting and unfortunately the emails can wait 💕
