Has anyone else gotten laid off but then your actual lay off date is in the future? That’s what happened to me, I was laid off Monday but instead of it being immediate I still have two more weeks. It feels weird just working and wrapping up everything that I’m working on. I have no motivation to do anything and my thought process is what are they going to do, fire me? Such a weird company to lay someone off in a clearly revenue generating position.

I was one that they gave notice in Oct 2021 that Dec 31, 2022 would be my last day. It was my entire team and we were all remote, most of us were hired as remote employees 15+ years ago. Luckily I decided to retire while others weren't so fortunate. Himanshu Patel called us "expense actions" in one meeting after the 2nd or 3rd RIF in Octiber but didn't realize some were still there until the 2022 client commitments were completed
Happened to me this year. They gave me a "2 weeks notice". But at least for me they said you can go home.
Lol, this is them realizing they've cut departments to the quick and really can't afford more losses, but RIF's are the only tool in Frankie Gotti's minuscule toolbox.
This whole thing is a house of cards.
A RIF where the associate gets the two week notice? Very odd... It's usually immediate or in cases of long term retention, a couple months (like mentioned below) with some retention pay. Two weeks sounds like a more cynical ploy to have you finish out the month, but not go to August 1 when you'd have benefits for the whole month. Weasels. Dogbert lives.
Get a _damned_ good bottom feeding lawyer
Former menial HR. I got a 30 day working notice for a RIF. Gave my manager the most surface level job duties to keep severance and not pi-s anyone off. My advice is to use up any sick and or vacation time if they don't pay it out. Some states do not require payout. Ask for the policy. They track documents you send out so any client lists or confidential stuff is a big no. Make sure you have no outstanding grievances before signing documents. If so talk to a lawyer. Welcome to the club. Brighter horizons ahead.
I keep hoping for it!!
Paid out PTO is a state by state law - and now with basically everyone having "unlimited" days, it wouldn't matter anyway.
I have seen this before but for much longer, you had to train your replacement and the quality of training impacted your severance package. Some of these were 3 to 6 month durations.
Did you get severance? Is that tied to turning over your work?
Sit at your desk, wiggle your mouse. Look for alternative employment. If you have any unused well being days, burn them. They should pay out your earned PTO.
Consider it a win. Once the shock wears off you’ll realize you’re much better off.
Good luck. You’re life just got a lot better.
Yes, this just happened to me as well.
Think I would be taking some vacation. With unlimited days off you never acrue any days so you won't get paid for them.
