Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

What to say when applying for jobs: laid off, still employed?

What's the etiquette here? If we are laid off but we are still employed until the end of June, what do we tell prospective employers? I'm x-x at Nike, or, I'm longer at Nike?

agree with @vwn - you are still a Nike employee, until you aren't. Completely a personal preference around when/or how you disclose your status. There are a lot of amazing people impacted by layoffs, but the sad truth is there can still be a negative connection to being laid off.

I'm no longer at Nike but was laid off from the job I took after I left Nike. Over the past 4 years the company I joined post Nike has had multiple rounds of layoffs impacting thousands of people. I spoke with a recruiter recently and was honest. I told the recruiter that there had been multiple rounds of layoff's at my company over the past couple years and my department had been re-orged and sadly my position had been eliminated. The recruiter didn't bat an eye and said she's heard the same thing from so many people she's been meeting with recently. Unfortunately, layoff's are increasingly common in the corporate world and these recruiters know it and don't seem too bothered.

Some terrible advice above. First and foremost, be honest and a person of integrity. Being dishonest and/or deceitful, is not a good look for anyone. The truth can almost always roll off your tongue with ease, while being deceitful can be awkward and show in how you present yourself. While you do not have to bring it up yourself, it will very likely come up. Just be honest and NEVER say a bad word about your previous employer or any person you worked for or with. It gains you nothing and makes you look petty and small. Anyone that doesn't understand that layoffs are part of the corporate world and would hold a layoff against you is not a person you want to work with anyway. Good luck!! Having been through a layoff myself, years ago, with another company, I can tell you firsthand; you will never regret taking the high road, being honest and a person of high integrity. This is not the end of the world. It is a new chapter in the book of your life. Make the best of it...

Phase 1er here. Nike conducted layoffs. It’s in the news. Your right management coach will help you to talk about why you’re looking for a job. Don’t worry + layoffs are so routine these days that employers know it’s Nike and not you.

You are still with Nike until the payments stop. You are looking cute to pending layoffs. it’s the truth. Don’t get into layoffs at all if you don’t have to. You can even pretend to give two weeks notice notice.

Leave your LinkedIn as is (employed) until your employment has officially ended (end of June). Believe it or not, unless you are intent upon rehiring in the industry, great companies in other industries are not paying attention to Nike. But they ARE interested in great talent. Also, be sure to change your LI status to "Open to Work" and take advantage of any outplacement services you are offered. They are a really helpful and a productive use of the extra time you will have on your hands. I was "impacted" in a round last summer, chilled for a while, had multiple offers by Christmas and am making significantly more money in my new job.

Say whatever you think will get you the job. You can likely BS your way into saying you are still employed if you get your offered completed prior to June 28th, or you can go for sympathy and tell them you were RIFfed. I'd personally go with the former, but each job is different

You can say you were part of the recent RIF at Nike as of
Many are in this weird funk of a market for tech so it isn't all that shocking to see on a resume or on LinkedIN. Awful, Awful times.
