Anyone leaving WFC due to burnout?

Too much work, not enough staff.

Reading posts on this site is the most therapudic thing for me. Seriously.

It validates that I'm not alone in how I feel about this place.

“ Okay clearly Corp comm team is on this site. I agree with Jimroweisaloser Corp comm under that umbrella are items like calendars and photo shots for calendars, and museums that are free. The museum leader is located in SF with her team all making HIGH 6 figures. Yes I agree gut Corp comms deep that group is as bloated as Charlie’s ego…. Oh and I really do agree Jim Rowe is a total loser glad he is gone.”

quit talking about things you know nothing about. Corp Comms has tried time and again to clean up the cr@p that are the bad decisions of this company. But since we are so “bloated” you will get your wish as all the people who know how to handle the problems either left or are leaving. Next time you see Wells in the news don’t complain. Also “JimRoweIsALoser” needs to get help. JR has been gone for years now. Let it go or get some help.

Interesting. I tend to help anyone that needs it. I show and help out my teammates, people on other teams, whoever asks. I make sure to have great documentation around processes i’m responsible for so anyone can pick it up if i cannot. I got rated consistently exceeds. Hoarding knowledge will not save your career. Try being a better person and teammate, you might be surprised.

This is what you get with stack ranking and forcing employees to low annual ratings just to make a quota. Why would I help or train you? We are in competition for ratings, raises and bonuses. This is the environment leadership has created on purpose believing old consultant hype that it increases performance. It is also a replacement for bad management that can't recognize the value people add. It fits the self-centered narrative of today's world. I just want mine.

@vwb, exactly. Corp Comm had a huge exodus of great talent. The smart people pulled that parachute a year ago. Sticking it out hoping the situation would improve was a waste of a year I could have been somewhere better. Management is a joke. Everyone is out to save their own rear from layoffs. We were left trying to figure out where we even fit. Re-orgs, team shifts, CoE, etc.

I'm out soon enough and couldn't be happier.

@pdo+1fpQ7geh

Those immature, callous attitudes are the reason the smart people are leaving. Enjoy your safe room.

I am confused, the Anti-RTO crowd preaches about how much more productive we are at home…this doesn’t fit the narrative…

After being told by management that our entire exempt team has to track even the most minute details of our daily activities. People with 6 figure salaries are being asked to track every minute of work they do in order to justify their job.

The last time management started asking teams like us to do BS like that the CEO wound up getting banned from the banking industry a year or two later.

I joined b/c WF wanted fresh blood & I liked the apparent West coast laid back "collegiate" atmosphere. Since I joined though the legacy folks are clinging to the rock pushing off the newbies into the water as they don't want to lose their turf. Fool me once, but the third, fourth times, I'm not going to put up with it anymore. If management isn't smart enough to get rid of the "trouble makers', I'm going to take my skills, experience, "can do" attitude and continuous improvement to another company.

It's not burn out per se. It's joining a new team & no one shows you the ropes, or they train you haphazardly, leaving lots of gaps in your knowledge like Swiss cheese, so that you purposely don't learn or for them to hoard the info & keep their importance on the team. It's the old time "legacy" people attacking you (especially when you are a high producer) as they are worried about being displaced. It's inexperienced managers either gas lighting you when you take concerns to them (because some of the aforementioned people might be their "favorites") or pushing you down as they think you are a threat to their standing on the team if you are good. Most of my "burn out" is not getting things explained properly, thus it takes 5 times the amount of time to do, being shamed & made to feel inadequet if I ask questions, not being thanked or acknowledged for doing a good job, or doing a great job on a short turn around after someone else sat on it for over a week & never got it done, it's giving compliments to team members with NO reciprocation (as that will make you look good for a minute in the meeting and that might put them out of a job down the road in their thinking), it's certain people always volunteering or volun-told-ing vs the ones that treat their team without respect, never get asked to do the hard stuff, and just coast on by. It's being asked by team members to "help" or "educate" them & then when you need it, being swatted away. Yeah, running for the exits.

With bonuses paid out and now with RTO on the horizon everyone is racing towards the exits.

100% I have at least half a dozen friends in tech looking to leave for this reason and they know more themselves. The bubblegum and bailing wire takes too much effort to keep running smoothly.

How much of your daily work is actually helping people or at least visibly driving a better outcome for the business, vs. navigating red tape or fulfilling some random process that doesn’t even make sense and management can’t even give a clear explanation for?

For me it’s becoming a lot more of the latter.

Process required has evolved to be time consuming, disjointed, inefficient, with multiple people and departments in different time zones. Terrible. Much worse than it ever was and is supposed to make us more responsive. The opposite has happened.

Look at the parade of people leaving Corp Comms getting better jobs that pay more and have resources. BR laid off all the wrong people. Now you have a department that is overworked with all the good talent mostly gone. Like everyone else, I’m looking.
