People who keep saying they'd rather quit than go back to the office, be honest: is it really better to be unemployed than going back to the routine you've done for years (and in some cases decades) without any issues? If it was so horrible, why didn't you quit before? There were always remote jobs, what stopped you from giving them a try?

In that case maybe SvB should get himself to a hub. Isn't he still in NYC? that's not where the tech employees are so is this just "good for thee and not for me" nonsense? Also, I don't work for Saul, so I'm not worried about his opinion on the matter unless it mirrors the approach for the entire enterprise.
There was also some talk from just below Saul that some may he grandfathered in to WFH in their current roles. But if they switched roles it would have to be at a hub.
I know on my team, nearly half do not live anywhere near a hub. Myself, I do, but I am the only one on my team that would be at this hub. So there was be no brilliant water cooler ideas. I'd still be by myself.
Saul said in 2019 the telecommuters were going to be forced into a hub office, they walked that back during the pandemic, but according to him the Location Strategy plan has not been cancelled. It’s just delayed. This comes up on almost every AMA. I wouldn’t call that a rumor.

Who says we are considering pushing "existing WFH" people to go to an office? Just rumors on anonymous forums as far as I know, though your LOB may differ.
What’s all this nonsense about collaborating around a water cooler? There hasn’t been a water cooler in the office in over a decade. We are told to bring our own water, or go buy some at the cafeteria or get some in the bathroom. The water fountain is outside the bathroom, with signs nearby saying to take your conversations elsewhere so you don’t disturb those working nearby.
Wells Fargo is know as the 99 cent bank of banking… so of course people don’t want to come back to work… people really didn’t even work when they were in the office anyways…. Most people don’t understand why they should have to shower and change their Clothes to go into the office …. They feel they should be able to take their afternoon naps at home and not in the office anymore… after all we are talking about Wells Fargo workers

I did. Got a new gig after about three weeks of looking. Make double what I was making at wells. To be fair, the benefits aren’t as good, I did lose some PTO but I’m no longer worried about being laid off and the money I’m making is more than a fair trade off.
I just cannot believe we are seriously considering forcing preexisting wfh contracts to now be office.
I didnt sign up for that and took the job because it wasnt office .

My skype is lit up as it is, the last thing you want is me and my coworkers in the same office at the watercooler shooting the breeze with conversation starters like “Well, WTF do you think is going on, and why is our alleged manager MIA?”
I think it is, at least partially, a major control issue. Not all, but some of management is finding it difficult to justify their existence/salary in the WFH environment. Not as many bs meetings, not having to referee employee issues, no higher ups to regularly glad-hand and schmooze in person. I think they feel threatened that things are going smoothly without them guarding over the chicken coop in person.

It says a lot about WF that they are doing this despite the past year showing mass wfh being an experiment that passed with flying colors. Who would want to work somewhere that at best, is arbitrary and irrational, or at worst, actively promoting hostile decisions like this to provoke attrition? I think for many it was the straw that broke the camel's back.
It should really not be a mystery that people see it this way, not that OP was asking about it in good faith.
Some of us have been remote workers for over a decade. The idea of wasting time to commute into work where none of our coworkers are even located is asinine.
Whole teams were built in diverse locations on the idea that in the event of a major disaster, several employees will still be able work.
WFC has been getting extra work from us for years now with the time saved getting ready and commuting to and from work. The new management clowns don't recognize this. But they sure as he-l are going to want to see the same volume of work done and not a drop off with travel to and from work. So all that will do is negatively affect the employees for no gain.
These id--ts really think chatting by the watercooler stimulates new ideas. No it doesn't. It is time wasted that will be spent talking about all the stupid moves these Chase flunkies are making.

When a company is inflexible enough to suggest work from office is the go forward after having just successfully navigated wfh for a year:
They arent interested in people and they dont believe what data is telling them.
Namely, they got more out of us and made money in a chaotic year.
If you cant acknowledge reality that I am working and continue trying to force me to care about lgbtq body parts, its evident we are noe a social engineering mechanism, not a bank and I am not interested
In years past, only particular jobs were remote full time. It was never really tested for other roles until companies had to. Now everyone realizes that driving to work 1-2 hrs round trip everyday is a complete waste. Plus all the time wasted socializing. All the people I work with are in other cities anyway. So, I'm on the phone at home or in the office. So what's the big deal?
I worked here remotely for ten years and no longer live near a hub. So yeah, I would rather leave and get a better job paying more money than commute 90 miles to a job with no future. I didn’t have to give a remote job a try, I already had one.
