Do managers get notified when someone on their team applies for an internal role? Is there any way around that? Kinda feels a little weird

@ve - If the job you were applying for was a promotion (next pay grade), they can’t block you.
@ve Make note of that if they fabricate something about your performance.
I applied for a job under a different manager and my manager blocked me from moving. This was in Enterprise Tech
I wish there was a way round it to but there is not. My manager is asking too many questions and I am looking to move on due to retaliation for bringing up an issue. I am 99% sure I will get the job so I am dealing with it but unless you know you will get the job you are better off leaving the company.
Have you thought about just telling them you are applying??

If you're in a toxic department expect your manager to retaliate for you trying to leave. Your only good option is to just leave the company.

Nope.
Prepare to be disappointed.
Put on your big boy/girl/they pa-ties and have a conversation with your current boss about what you want and that you will be applying for this opportunity. That way you have nothing to worry about and don’t have to post about it on the internet.
It does notify your manager and I think it even prompts you to let you know it will when you click apply. No way around it that I'm aware of.
