Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Stop the FUD, worry about what you can control

Reposting this comment as this forum is filled with more and more trolls:

I mean this kindly, but anyone who feels this level of emotional impact from a corporation needs therapy. It is not healthy to have your wellbeing and self worth be tied to a faceless entity.

You need to love and respect yourself and understand that a job is just a means to an end. The things that matter are your friends and family, your health, and how you spend your time outside of work.

@1gkv+1qqzoror not just multiple people... if you exclude INDIA CHINA guys...still there would be anywhere like 20-30% came from UK EU and LA countries came here on VISA with Nike. This trend is very very less in other top US companies.

@1ifh+1qqzoror come on grow up. Just dont think if you see brownish asain guy then nike sponsored his visa. There are tons of people who moved here from UK,EU region directly on Nike visa. Their only luck is that they get their Greencard little fast compared to Inida or CHINA. 2 of the PM's on my team are 1 from UK and 1 from NL.

@1hps you have no idea what you’re talking about. Nike often hires folks from overseas and sponsors them coming here. I know my bosses boss is from the UK and came to the US straight from another company on a Nike sponsored visa.

@1hps+1qqzoror

Untrue. I know multiple people- including executives- who were hired from other brands overseas and whom Nike sponsors their visa

There is a difference between hiring people living in the US who are working with some other company on a visa, and bringing fresh people from overseas on a visa. FTE’s at Nike on visas were people either working as ETW’s through vendors or joined NIke here in US and transferred their visas to Nike. Nike doesn’t hire directly from overseas.

@1ifh+1qqzoror What are you talking about? I can make 15 people who Nike hired from overseas and gave a visa.

Nike doesn’t process visa for people living outside US. You must already be here in US before you had joined Nike. Visa situation in US is a known mess here, I don’t think we should blame Nike for that.

Some of us moved our entire lives to Oregon from the other side of the planet for work opportunities. We settled, some of us started families there. It became our “home”. Until that is, our VISAs were torn up the moment Nike decided to lay us off.

So it’s a little more than - “ ind a new job”…. How about: good luck, you have 60 days to exit the US, to some other country, sell your house, uproot your family, and try to plan an international move… etc.

Fully agree with OP. Some of y’all sound like you’re about to commit preemptive seppuku here. People seem to think a multibillion dollar global corporation is the same as a mom & pop business.

@vdt+1qqzoror so genuine question:

How does being on this site help your situation or your family?

Sheeeeesh so much negativity. OP is just saying It’s a reality that we all signed up for this. Corporate America.

You expect anonymous users to coddle your feelings? cmon get real

How many of you believe OP is an actual employee anyway?

You all are on here knowing full well you have nothing to gain. You are delusional if you think you’ll find anything actually credible on a Internet forum that anyone can post in lol this isn’t a private community, or a support group

It’s a speculation circus! Anyone that does have anything remotely worthy is keeping it to themselves.

plan for the worst but hope for the best and get off this site. You know all the information there is to know.

Self-worth aside, the economy is rough. Expenses for basic needs are high. Being in the job market when you are forced to (as opposed to looking for a growth opportunity) is daunting to many of us . My family needs health insurance. Etc, etc. Many people are genuinely worried about maintaining stability.

OP, I agree but this sentiment doesn’t sit well with the majority of WHQ employees who all they have ever known is Nike. It’s sad really… Life exist outside Nike, though and the reality is this is the most recent of many previous round of layoffs that this company has done. I’m amazed how many people expected 85-year-old billionaire to come in with a cape, and save the company when he himself has done this many times in the past.

OP- Spoken like a fool.
In the US, job security is pretty important. So many "benefits" are tied to jobs that should otherwise be provided by the state.

Have a heart, and do some research on change management.

Tell that to the people whose entire life from childhood has been sports, who love what they do, and who got caught up in some nepotistic bullsh-t. Have some empathy. Emotional intelligence and the human element matters. You are part of the problem.
