Anyone have an update? Is this happening and what are the guidelines?

@1e3

GM is on a power trip. My site's VPs don't even live in the city. Are they required to return to the office?

Note: At the town hall Jeff announced for the back-to-the-office is firm, that managers will not have discretion on the 4-day requirement.

Not cool to punch down on Memphis. If you do survive the drivers there, there is a high likelihood that you will be punched at your destination in real life, not just by an anonymous commenter on the internet.

@1ae

It’s more than just a parenting problem. If parents have better paying jobs with better work life balance, then those parents can spend time parenting their kids.

I just looked up the location of the Memphis campus. It’s rough. How long is the drive for you folks down there? Making y’all return to the office is cruel.

@183+ He was not trying to be cool. It's reality. I don't want to drive to work because Memphis is dangerous. Also, robbing people does not stem from being "poor" in America, that is insulting, it's a parenting and culture issue. Don't believe me? Ask Geoff how many people he robbed on his next bonus. If your pay is under 150K and his bonus is 30 mil again, he'll rob at least 200 people of a full year of salary.... Imagine the business you could start with that money.

They want me to return to the office? Is it worth my life?

@13m there is no badge out at any of the offices I’ve worked at. You badge in, then you leave from any exit without scanning.

Perhaps I'll start a side hustle selling $25 MPUs that log you onto the WiFi that employees can leave on site.

@13z at 3M it was very clear you didn’t badge out during an emergency evacuation or drill.

In fact, for drills they looked at the logs for repeated ‘IN’ badge swipes to verify you left the building.

@13w we had to badge in/out at 3M for that reason you said - to get head count in a fire or other emergency. I was really surprised when that they didn't require it at MDT. Found out later it's because they don't want to cause a bottle neck at the doors when trying to get people out during an emergency. Different schools of thought, I guess.

@v2 it was weird when I came to Medtronic as a white collar exempt employee and was not required to badge out. All my prior employers required badge in/out as a mechanism to determine headcount during emergency evacuations (allegedly)

How do you confirm everyone is out of the building during a fire drill unless you have an accurate list of who is in your building?

@136 computer covers you if you left the badge at home and are on a paper badge.

Also covers you if you are attending meetings at a different site, for example if your assigned to a desk in Rice Creek and attend an all day meeting at Mounds View you will get credit for a day in the office. My guess is it’s easier for them to see which wifi your on than aggregate all the scanners at all allowable sites.

The way it was presented to me is that they are not looking for number of active hours on wifi at this point.

Can someone comment or speculate more on the internet connection tracking? I was hoping to badge in and leave. But if they are tracking internet connection, that is huge.
If so I plan to retaliate by not ever working from home. I will always leave my computer at work. No more emails in the evening or working on projects at night time. Because Medtronic is basically saying work needs to be done in the office. So fine, you want it, you got it!

Why are they making us RTO when they are just going to send our jobs to India? At least let us collect our final paychecks without having to waste our gas.

@yp su-ks that they are forcing you to work at this job, and not find another role outside the company that is better suited for your skill set and/or meet your needs commuting.

Does the company have some blackmail on you? How are you being forced to stay here?

" IT told me that Medtronic not only will check my badge but also network connection"

This is dystopian if true. What is the point of making us go back into the office if they are going to send our jobs overseas?

@jt People like that commenter are great. They think they're StiCkInG It 2 Da MaN by slowing down and doing the bare minimum. Meanwhile, I'll work my a-s off and keep on bringing in more money and promotions. The fact so many think like that co-mie, mediocre b-m are the reason why those of us with a work ethic will be successful. It's almost adorable he thinks that corporate decisions he disagrees with are unique to Medtronic. True clown mentality.

The 90 day thing is real. It could very likely MDT is planning some legal actions once 4 day RTO is in place.

Target and Medtronic stocks are both stuck in an eternal bear market. Maybe a turn around when Walz and Martha resign.

@kn do you know anybody at Target? Have you been following anything that’s going on in that company? I don’t think many people are flocking to jump on that sinking ship right now. Target has been continuously bleeding headcount. The good ‘ol days of coffee walks in the skyways are gone for those folks and they’re continuously letting blood slowly.

I don’t know where the youth is going to want to work, but ‘cool’ places don’t exist in the current economy.

Has any RTO haters realized this little announcement can out 91 days before 9/1/2025 when you required to be onsite. Just saying MDT thought of everything

"A 90-day notice of termination is a common requirement when ending a contractual agreement like an employment contract . It provides both parties with a substantial period to prepare for the end of the agreement. This notice period allows time to find a replacement employee, or to make other necessary arrangements. "

How stupid these people are who talk about sticking to the mission and helping patients out? Things that are wrong with this thought process:

  1. It's a noble cause yes, but its still a business at the end and not a non-profit. Company looks out for itself and so do the employees.
  1. RTO doesn't guarantee one will become more committed. It can be the opposite too. No matter how much you ignore it, work-life balance is a real thing.
  1. Lastly, your commitment and loyalty are only as good as the last quarters profit.

So please for your own sake atleast, get real.

@js new college grads aren’t going to take our jobs. This company is a dinosaur and Geoff has put us in the La Brea Tar Pit. Besides, Gen Z doesn’t want to work in person, either. They’ll work at flexible, cool places like Target.
