Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Being on campus is a nightmare right now

What a mess. Everyone is depressed, zombie walking around. Stressed. Worried. If someone is happy, it is very suspicious.

My Dir boss has gone into push, push mode which is her controlling way of dealing with stress. It's all exhausting.

What a mess.

@4rdj+1qYPL5Pr haha yea, our managers, directors, senior directors, simply hired more temps or assigned vision and management responsibilities to their ICs.

@4dpq+1qYPL5Pr Mine too, but not to her male employee. She would NEVER treat him so terribly. Doesn't have the guts.

So many unfit Directors and Sr Directors. Get out of the weeds, peeps, and drive strategy and vision like you are supposed to. (Our Director is all up in our work and expects us to do strategy and vision for her... because she is in over her head.)

Can't wait to go back to depression campus again tomorrow. Throw on top of it that my osycho Director goes into controlling micromanager mode in these situations and it all feels.... magical.

What happens to ETWs during this time? Or do we just get "released" when our contracts are up in May?

don't miss paying $20 dollars for a "gourmet" hamburger with literally just 2 buns and a beef patty that's the size of a slider. lettuce, tomatoes, cheese cost extra

Another analogy would be that your partner tells your friend behind your back and you overheard that they were thinking of breaking up. Each day your partner comes home as if nothing. Never mentioned it to you. Each day they come home you think “is this the day they tell me?” “Did they change their mind?”

We should move everything to India, Atlanta, Europe, and New York and get rid of the redundant WHQ employees...

It really is crummy to essentially tell employees “We’re going to devote hundreds of millions of dollars to severance for layoffs” and then let those employees stew over that for a few months. Seriously??? That’s like a partner saying “I think I might wanna break up with you…I’ll get back to you in a few months and let you know. Um kay?”

Aw HELLLLL no.

I’ve been wondering what motivates senior execs to think this is OK and the only thing that comes to mind is not a nice thought. They’ll all millionaires many times over. What do they truly care about how employees are impacted? Isn’t going to impact the six-figure remodeling of their vacation home in Sunriver or the renovation of their other “vacation cottage” in Europe.

Cynical I know. But I long ago stopped believing that anything other than extracting wealth from Nike was a top priority for senior management. That’s partly why Nike isn’t firing on all cylinders like it used to. Former generations of leadership were themselves true Nike believers and it showed in how the company was managed and how employees were treated. Marketplace results were an outcome of that effective leadership. Those people are long gone.

I don’t want to lose my job but I am seriously considering an exit either way. Just tired of…everything.

Yeah when I saw you I thought you seemed depressed.

But don’t worry, I reported you to HR. They’ll help you out.

Easy to spot the dead weight like @mtc when they love to talk so much about the amenities and all these ways to avoid doing work.

The people I work with keeping the wheels on this dumpster fire speed run to the bottom are complaining about seating arrangements, lack of monitors, loud environments, not being able to co-locate because of too little space, lost time to commuting and plethora related scheduling difficulties resulting, anxiety from our ELTs business masterclass of handling unneeded layoffs.... you know, the kind of things that materially and actually matter when getting sh-t done.

But yea, keep telling us about those distractions you spend your day with. So glad you're with us.

Been to 3 retirement parties since RTO. They're retiring early Just to get out. They're done. Been here 20+ years and I've always been the cheerleader.
Mentally, I'm slipping and I thought that would NEVER happen. I've always been the cheerleader of my area but the mental toll has affected me physically. I'm so exhausted. There's been ups and downs over the years, but I've never seen it this bad.
Between going back to managing a household, managing work and life in general, I'm fried. I've lost almost 3 hours a day just to non productive nonsense.
You add constant fears of layoffs and reorgs, it's a storm.
Even the young twenty somethings look defeated. Not to mention, people just keep getting sick. It su-ks.

@djl+1qYPL5Pr OMG! How relatable! This is exactly my observation visiting LBJ and talking to NSRL researchers there! You would think you met world class smart scientists but he-l no They tell you they have zero decision making powers and everything is being dictated by someone who does not have any research background. Once I met one of them, it took me a few days to fully digest what he said... Now seeing your comment is like 😲....

LOL those id--ts talking about fancy campus and amenities and stuff... those aren't for you minions' enjoyment you d-mbasses. It's for Nike to brand and market themselves to the ATHLETES and their audience, and then for id--ts like you all to think that the campus is so great therefore getting way underpaid and having school jock bench warm dropouts by your boss is the best thing ever, cos Culture!
You think the LBJ building and fancy NSRL lab is for smart science and smart people to do heads down good research and make innovative shoes? It's a brand and marketing company durdurrs.

I would rather be in a cr-ppy building than in an office space as superficial as the leaders and brand.

Let’s not let this stress tear us apart. It’s a difficult time for us all. Lots of uncertainty. Potentially loosing our jobs. That’s a terribly stressful life event. We all deal with it in different ways. Please be kind to each other. ❤️❤️❤️

Yes it’s so awful to have a beautiful place to work. I wish instead we we in terrible cr-ppy buildings downtown where you have to literally be tied to a desk 8-5. No gym, no cafe, no discounts for you and your family. Sounds awesome. The people not in the hustle and keeping the right focus of getting things on track are the ones they want gone. Oh and get over the 4:1, anyone complaining about coming to work will probably not have to soon.

The stress is the price you pay waiting on the 6 month severance package. It takes a toll but hopefully it’s worth it in the end.

Yesszzzzz! It really su-ks being on campus now. Everyone is so stressed and nervous. My SR dir was a wonderful character and now she is so passive aggressive! 🙄 Not sure if her behavior change is to deal with her stress or If she knows something coming for me? But I came to this realization that I have been stressed since Nov of last year! 3 months! I could and should have devoted my time on applying for another job ..

LOL it’s suspicious to be happy? Some of us don’t live above our means, consider Nike our identity or allow some VP dorks to control our well being.
Regardless of what happens, the only thing you can control is your behavior.
Focus on taking care of yourself and treating the people you love.
These aren’t good people who make these decisions, but you can be!
