Yes there is other "matching", but it takes more time jumping through their new hoops than I do volunteering.

All—hate to say this, but it’s time to watch out for yourselves. We are only beginning to understand the depths of the developing economic downturn. If, god forbid, you are laid off by Wells Fargo, it is unlikely you will find as well-paying a job anytime soon. You may not be able to find work for a year or two. Take the usual advice about how much of a cushion you need and multiply it by, say, five at a minimum. Rake in and save as much as you can, while you can. You will then be able to provide for your families without straining services that others need more, which adds up to a donation. If you are awash in cash and have two or more years of living expenses, you can disregard this. Otherwise, your responsibility right now is to yourself. It’s going to be worse than you think.

@lws+16JEfRmf I think you can get a match via a 'Community Cares' grant. But they make it very confusing to understand what donations are eligible for a match and to what $ amount. I think it is intentionally confusing to limit the amount of $ the company has to pay out.

Happy to consider donating once I have clarification on whether I’m losing my job in the middle of a pandemic/depression. Until then, I will be cheerfully deleting Month of Action emails without reading them.

@iel I dislike many things that WF has done. But I won't leave, and will likely not be laid off. No, I'm going to stick around just to see your smug optimism on display when you clear out your desk.

My serious question is:

Taking all the news throughout each of the previous 4 years in to consideration (such as the fraud, the illicit sales practices, the billions of $ in fines, the repeated failure to meet regulatory consent orders and the resulting asset cap, the failure to properly manage both in the C-Suite and our Board, the $40 billion Tim Sloan authorized in stock buybacks to falsely prop up our stock price, the retaliation on Whistle-Blowers...), could you please explain in a realistic and sensible way the reasons why you are proud to work for Wells Fargo?

@zja+16JEfRmf this is exactly what losers say. That's why there was such a push for participation trophies. Failure , recognizing the cause of the failure, and making corrections is what makes us better. When you simply say 'Good job! You tried!', you refuse to recognize why we are in this state. Saying 'sweetie' to someone you don't know in this context shows that you know I'm right.

No. Not reconsidering. I completely know we as a company have bad mistakes and it has hurt our reputation. However, we should all either make a conscious decision to get up everyday and make a difference to make this company better or dwell on the past and continue with endless stress. Go ahead.... find another large Corp that is perfection and doesn’t have problems. You won’t find them. Are you “shaking or chastising” me others expressing frustration or anything other than negative? Goes both ways sweetie.

TOXIC POSITIVITY:

The overgeneralization of a happy, optimistic state that results in the denial, minimization, and invalidation of the truth or facts. Forcing positivity on others vs acknowledging both sides of life.

Below are some common expressions and experiences of toxic positivity to help you recognize how it shows up in everyday life:

Minimizing other people’s experiences with “feel good” quotes or statements.
Shaming or chastising others for expressing frustration or anything other than positivity.

To force a positive outlook is stating there really isn’t a problem that needs to be addressed, period. You’re shutting out the possibility for further contemplation and problem-solving.

Have you ever been around a sweet, sugary, “just think happy thoughts” pollyanna kind of person? Even though that person might have the best intentions in the world, the message they are mindlessly sending is, “only good feelings are allowed in my presence.” A head-in-the-sand philosophy to life.

Examples Toxic Positive statements:

“You need to improve your attitude.”
“Don’t think about it, stay positive!”
“Everything will work out in the end.”
“Positive vibes only!”
“If I can do it, so can you!”
“Delete Negativity”
“It could be worse.”

Conclusion:

If you recognize yourself as a transmitter of toxic positivity, it’s time to cut it out. You’re hurting yourself and others by insisting on this monochromatic mindset. Instead of practicing toxic positivity, aim for balance and the acceptance of both the good and bad rather than all-or-nothing thinking.

@iel+16JEfRmf a Pollyanna viewpoint of WF is why WF is in the mess it is in. Stick your head in the sand and pretend that nothing bad ever happened. If you don't recognize the problems, you can't make improvements. It's like the doctor who tells his patient that they are controlling their weight really well but won't tell them about the cancer the doctor found because it's too negative.

I really disagree with this post especially in these difficult times. I have personally donated to my children’s schools for many years through a payroll deduction to the Community Foundation. Because it was bi-weekly, my contribution was much larger than it would have been in a lump sum. Wells Fargo has then matched my donation a 100% year after year. These schools have not only thanked me for my generosity and the much needed contribution, but also thanked me for helping them get the additional funds from Wells Fargo. These funds mean a lot to the non-profit community. I think that you all are missing a really key point.

Please reconsider.

If you dislike anything WF does, please leave. You are part of the problem. Those of us who wish to continue our careers and help WF succeed could use better employees than haters. Perhaps if you are whining about WF, you should reflect in the mirror to see the problem. WF pays you to do a job and that is your purpose. The same purpose at any other large company. Really don’t care if you think us optimistic people are drinking “kool aid”. We know our purpose and that is to advance ourselves within a company giving opportunity for a job. If the grass is so green elsewhere, please go and quickly to save the ones who actually care. Please only use this thread for informational purposes instead of your whining platform.

@drf+16JEfRmf I didn’t say that someone is going to hear WF and think about service. I said it’s one positive thing you could bring up. You’re going to have to talk about your prior employer. Would you rather sit in an interview and talk about all the bad press and how you have been done art of a terrible culture, everything s—ed, yada yada yada?

Wells is trying to bring their reputation back. Why not just be supportive?

@lay+16JEfRmf if you think any company is going to hear 'Wells Fargo' and think 'Great community service!' you are either HR, high af, delusional, or a combination of all three. Every company that I've interviewed with always talks about the real image of Wells Fargo. A financial institution that can't seem to get out of it's own way with scandals and incompetence.

What was said is still true; why try and impact the companies reputation when we already know massive cuts are underway? not saving to give them more credit than you normally would have or to be blindly loyal.

How does allowing the company to “take credit” for your volunteer time/money in any way hurt you? It doesn’t. All you’re trying to do is think of new ways to damage the image. Get lost.

You know, any positive press about the company makes you look good too. Maybe the next company you interview at highly values community service. It would be nice to chat about one good thing about WF, which is the number of service hours that employees put in and how you loved being a part of that every year.

I’ve been a big advocate of professionalism and staying positive. However, I just cannot bring myself to channel charitable donations through Wells Fargo. I will donate independently and show my receipts to anyone who asks. You can lay off tens of thousands of American workers, but don’t expect them to help you whitewash it by helping millionaire executives get United Way photo ops. Prioritize saving enough to protect you and your family, and give any leftovers directly to a local cause.

Companies are not loyal to their employees. No reason to be loyal to them. It is a Company. They pay you for a product that you produce for them. There is absolutely no reason they should get credit for the donations that their employee's give. Do you get any credit when the Company gives 500 million dollars to some cause? We didn't even get any profit sharing this year.

I have never logged in the personal volunteer time I do outside the 16 hours allocated for it. There are groups I have supported with my time for years and and will continue to do so regardless of the company I work for. No need for a company to be recognized for our personal time

some of us are still proud to work here and would actually like to see the reputation improve vs getting worse, which is what will happen if others do as you suggest with the community support. So unless you all want to see even greater "expense reductions" I wouldn't suggest following the OP's advice. Do what you would normally have done, if able to continue.

Golden rule folks, golden rule. If even half of the nastiness and hatred on this site is real, and I'm not sure it is, you may find that it's your attitudes, and that nastiness seeping through in your work and your interactions, that is holding you back at WF and not WF being an evil or corrupt organization.
