Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

CHANGE OF HEART?

Stock buyback was dropped citing the need to "maintain flexibility." The company will instead invest the money in serving customers, and taking care of company employees

I don't see AT&T in line for a bailout. Some of this work at home isn't going to migrate back to the office later on. And I'm talking about AT&T's customers, not AT&T. Cellular is a consumer staple since it is most peoples' primary phone. Internet is the new landline.

It is shale, airlines, hotels, stores that are shuttered etc that will be in line for bailouts. And for some reason, Boeing, although they're not in the toilet because of Covid. Airlines did a whole lot of share buybacks.

That is an absolute lie. This company does not care at all about their employees.

Prem Techs are being sent out with ridiculously heavy installation workloads in the midst of a global health epidemic with no protective gear whatsoever. If this company cared in the least it would be reducing the workload to repairs of existing service and installations for first providers, not someone who needs help hooking up their AT&T TV box.

This is just like Randall's false promise that he would create 7,000 new jobs if he got his big tax cut - he has done nothing but mercilessly lay employees off ever since.

America, AT&T is lying to you. They don't care about their customers and they definitely don't care about their employees - they only want more free money from the government.

These are just moves to position AT&T to get government bailout money during the corona virus crisis. For example, Elizabeth Warren said:

"We're not doing no-strings-attached bailouts that enrich shareholders or pay CEO bonuses. Period."

Some of the "strings" she's pushing for are:

  • Companies are permanently prohibited from engaging in share repurchases.
  • Companies must maintain their payrolls and use bailout funds to keep people working or on payroll.
