Thread regarding Ford layoffs

I received a layoff notice on Monday

I want to know if I will be pushed out the door before my last day with pay for 60 days. My official last day stated on my layoff notice is 60 days from Monday. I also want to know if there is any chance they will take back layoff notice and keep me around.

@vn That's terrible. Sorry to hear that, hopefully things are better for you now.

Sounds fake. Never heard of anyone getting even a few day's notice much less 60 days.

@vn You sound a lot like me. I try to live by the golden rule, but I haven’t always been treated the way I’d like to be (especially at work lately). I’ve made my share mistakes in life and have not always been a saint. But, I always make an effort to treat others well. I think that this is the only way I can contribute to making the world a better place than if I had never existed. I think that some people have difficulties or stressors, or feel they have it bad, and if I can offer a small act of kindness or do something positive, I might have made a small difference in their lives.

Not to be a hippie, but do something good for the world, as small as it may be every day.

@th I grew up in a family that often reminded me I was d-mb, annoying, weird, re--rded, stupid, a bother etc and gave me every reason to justify not existing. I like to give others the tolerance and patience I never had growing up so that they don’t have to feel the same way.

@th I don't know. I think most people are generally good, at least I try to believe that. Some people get anxious. Who knows where their mind goes? I don't know that it's intolerance. Maybe more like irritability due to a toxic environment where teams like HR thrive in chaos, forgetting there are real people and it's not some evil empire.

@q5 Somehow, I doubt you are tolerant.

@ms no idea, I am generally okay with change, but hate trying new things, but I have a lot of tolerance and patience for stuff.

@ma I generally don’t like change but I love trying new things, where does my personality fall doc?

@gw My guesses would be comfortability or wants to stay in the area, makes it easier not to move or a farther commute. Some personality types hate trying new things or environments, so it’s easier to stay even if it’s irrational to or a bad environment. Like an abusive relationship, but you’re used to it and comfortable within it, so no desire to leave.

Ford doesn’t give U.S. salaried workers any notice. So this can’t be a salaried worker in the U.S.

@a2

Yeah why would you look within Ford if Ford is kicking you out? Ate you dense or do you just have Stockholm Syndrome? Terrible and tone deaf advice.

@OP read the paperwork. It will tell you exactly what the parameters are. You will have received a detailed packet via email post your layoff meeting. Within the packet are contacts if you require additional information.
If they are requiring you continue to show up to work, your new job for the next 60 days is finding a job external to Ford. Line up trusted coworkers as references and start applying and interviewing.

60 Days' notice is nothing special. It's rereferred to as a WARN.
As for other people saying stick around and hope to find another Ford internal job before lay-off date. Personally, I would not take that advice. I can't think of even one Ford manager I have worked for in the 30 years I have worked at Ford who I would want to go back working for now to avoid a layoff.

Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act (WARN)
The WARN Act protects workers, families, and communities. It mandates that employers give a 60-day notice before closing plants or conducting mass layoffs. This notice goes to affected workers or their representatives, the state's dislocated worker unit, and the local government.

Ford is not taking back the layoff notice. Start looking for a job now. It’s easier to get another job while still employed.

I don't understand why you'd want to stick around. Take the 60 days notice as a gift and get moving.

Giving you 60 days notice is a golden opportunity for you to look for a new job within the company. Use your network to find any openings. Reach out to suppliers and agencies for contract positions.

Good luck.
