Lets say you work on a team and your senior manager has seven managers working under them. Procedures/work/directives that engage the whole team or stretch across multiple teams under that snr mgr would be horizontal efforts. Things that just pertain to your team would be vertical efforts. Lets say your snr manager had a mandate to have a certain policy in place. They could dictate to their teams to implement this and if each team did it differently and reported back up they were doing xyz, that would be vertical. However, if that manager instead said we’re doing it this way and i expect everyone to do it the same, and Karyn will be overseeing the efforts, that would be horizontal.

It's a team that sleeps on the job all day

From the other thread it’s either that they are looking to centralize some “services” across the function and or it’s a team that will look “horizontally” (not group by group) to assess for efficiencies, duplication etc (which could also be in an effort to centralize some work)

In the context below, it could mean cross- operational risk which has 16 (+‐) different risk teams underneath. There’s what are called business aligned risk officers who also work across the risk types and business lines (cb, cl, wim). That’s just a guess but not clear on the question otherwise.

I think op asking because of the question posed in the thread regarding Saul's AMA. I wondered the same thing as the post did not make any damn sense.

In what context? It could mean a cross risk or cross business team (horizontal risk)
