Any insights on what might happen to TPMO ? Would it be combined with NDP or laid off completely

Out TPM is the most useless person in the whole of Nike. He is CLUELESS on the technology he is supposed to represent. Any other company would have absolute experts in the role, not people picked from low level support team management. Total joke.
It will be interesting to see how this all sakes out
I joined Nike an year ago, honestly the TPMs are not real Technical Product Mangers, seriously T(Technical) missing. They wasting lot of spring cycles, combined with the BPM, BPM is totally joke, I manage team of 8engineers, I have 2 TPM, 12 BPMS. Too much overhead on the name of Geo specific BPM. The BPMs are way overhead, TPMs should step up to live up to their title, have short runways, show positive intent to drive product road maps, Nike seriously lacking matured Agile & Engineering Practices. Ads not playing the role they need to play, no Technology Vision, Road Maps, process improvements, if a SD has real vision, further driving teams with motivation, trust teams will deliver more. None of the SD celebrate the success.
Tbh TPM/BPM are just like admin to schedule meetings and get confirmation. Everything else is just relaying message from business to engineering which y not just let biz talk to engineering instead directly. Prioritisation of work is also done by biz not by them. I dont think we need so many manager/director level to perform such role.
I don’t know that the TPM’s on their own need to be amputated, but I sure wish the duplicativeness of BPM and TPM would get fixed. For every 2 FTE’s that BPM/TPM represents you could most likely do with 1-1.25 FTE. And that would allow you to attrition some of the leadership too (Dir and up) NDP has a better handle on this than the rest of GT by having a single PM
TPMs at the ground level are product owners with a different title and they're absolutely playing a needed role with an engineering team. Not going to argue with the management overhead complaints but let's not completely write off the PO role, would be ok if it got rolled back into Engineering.
Take remaining TPM and combine with NDP under one leader within GT.
Nuke the whole useless thing and everyone associated with it starting with AL
@sxm+1r81mgOk If you don’t know. Then you don’t need to know.
@sxm+1r81mgOk RAT = Any of various long-tailed rodents resembling mice but larger, especially one of the genus
Keep it tight
Total speculation here. No source, just making things up.
My guess is that TPMO layoffs will mirror the engineering layoffs; i.e. areas of disinvestment.
A few people will be gone and some leaders, but for the most part still intact after taking a 10% hit like everyone else.
I do believe, though, that the ways of working between the teams will change a lot as everyone will have to do more with less.
what is RAT?
I think the TPMO will have some reductions but generally be safe. It’s what helps keep things moving properly and keeps the work in order. Sure you could operate for a few months without it but you will soon spiral out into disorder. You can come back here quote me on this.
What someone on an anonymous forum wants and what actually will happen may be two very different things. Opinions vs really. Unless someone actually knows, the short answer is we don’t know until things happen.
@ehp+1r81mgOk spot on. absolutely agree.
T in TPMO is irrelevant as they heavily depend on other technical people like engineers for advice!Technical Product Owners or product managers are not contributing anything significant technically! Just doing meetings to drive the conversations Which dont Need technical expertise! So may be entire TMPO Will be wiped out!
entire TPMO would be wiped out for sure.
Our TPMs are generally ok but they have terrible leadership and know nothing of the product/function they support. I’d be in favor of continuing to partner with the ones I work with on the daily basis but their leadership has to go. Essentially they schedule meetings and unable to lead them effectively which forces us to take over.
RIP anyone who had anything to do with the Datalogue acquisition
NDP went through layoffs in Nov and lost 20% of their org. Around 40 people. Would not be surprised if they are combined.
I would vote for a combination of both. Lay off the majority and combine whoever is left with NDP. There was so much duplication with NDP because the RAT was trying to consolidate power through hiring. Time to get rid of the bloat. As a rule of thumb, if the RAT built it, tear it down and start over.
