Capital One NA and a White ex-employee have agreed to settle a suit over racial discrimination and harassment claims.

Sherry Papa had alleged that a Black branch manager treated her worse than other employees, including non-White ones.

The parties submitted a stipulation for dismissal Thursday
The stipulation says they reached a settlement on May 15
Papa had brought claims under Title VII of the 1964 Civil Rights Act; Capital One denied all allegations
Papa was represented by Downer, Jones, Marino & Wilhite LLC. Capital One was represented by Ogletree, Deakins, Nash, Smoak & Stewart PC.

The case is Papa v. Capital One NA, W.D. La., No. 5:21-cv-01589, 6/8/23

I’ve definitely been held back from advancement for being a white guy. It’s very obvious when multiple of your ex team members who are women and or minority get the job with less output

The point is white older straight males are usually the perpetrators of bias and racism in the workplace. But women and non-white women can be racist harassers too. Bottom line, either way Capone is a mismanaged company.

I think the point they are making is that if there is racism toward white, straight, male employees, they are not getting the reviews that they may have earned at the expense of 'diversity'. The end result is the white, straight males will fall in the reviews and become candidates for pip, layoff, etc.

About time. I finally left after working for a minority manager for over a decde. I just kept my mouth shut while I watched anybody but white folks get promoted. People who could not speak English were promoted, people of color were promoted. I kept a spreadsheet for over a decade and not a single white person was promoted. Rather than cry racism, I kept my mouth shut and did my job and kept banking money. We know that minorities cannot be racist, right?

Racism goes both ways. Capone is filled with a bias, racist, and discriminatory culture that condones harassment.
