Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

So 75% of job descriptions are going away apparently?

I'm sure a lot of you saw the email about the consolidation of job titles that the company has from 10k down to 2,500. Apparently a lot of that reduction is simply getting rid of the numbered layers that many job titles have. Is this just a backdoor strategy to heap more responsibility on people without promoting them or paying them more, or what? I'm not sure what other "problem" this move solves.

Watch the video. It’s on teamworks or WFOD.

For those of you complaining, wait until the next step: deletion of the Job Families tool and removal of all transparency re: salaries/bonus targets. Following that, fixed bonus targets will be removed and everyone will strive for a 15%.

This is the m.o. for BofA and further consolidates power in the hands of the Company instead of the Employees....there will also be a Memo banning discussion of salaries with other employees under penalty of being fired.

Welcome to the New Wells Fargo Order.

You all love to have drama but the reality is it's not because of what's been said here but because of the move to workday. It can only handle so much. The conversion process has not gone as smoothly as many have hoped.

I didn't say it made sense, and I think the argument is just that it's harder to get a promotion to Senior than it used to be to get promoted from 5 to 6. Which with our current leadership I can actually believe. You also have to love how Outlook now tells you everybody's exact title, so I saw where after saying that he promoted someone significantly more junior who hadn't done anything earth-shattering that year, so it may be time for me to think about moving on.

Four years ago the worthless HR function occupied their time by re-naming job titles. They’re at it again.
This company is just a bureaucracy, pimping BLM, LGBTQ and other worthless social issues while screwing employees whenever that can. (Or in Stumpf and other swines cases, blaming employees when they knew the truth!)

LOL!!! What technology tree do you work in? In WIMT i know plenty of Sr Engineer, both Infrastructure and Software. Not one has a patent.

So in other words, they're just rearranging the deck chairs and pretending that these buckets aren't the same as just having the numbers. Leave it to HR to waste the time / money / effort to justify themselves.

I asked for a promotion to senior engineer since I’ve only been doing this for twenty years, and that would at least get my salary in line with MRP for my role, and was told I needed a software patent in order to be “senior”. I hate to know what you have to do to be a Principal Engineer.

Hasn't happened in WIM yet

They did this to the engineers last year. I went from being 8% above MRP to 20% above, because the median salary for my role dropped so much. No raise for me last year.

Instead of numbers it's three buckets (support, professional, managerial) with the following potential levels replacing the numbering system: Associate, Mid-Level (no modifier), Senior, Lead, Senior Lead, Principal. Support has 4 levels, Professional has 6, and Managerial has 7 (slightly different naming). Someone who was a senior analytics specialist might find themselves listed as a business analytics assistant or a senior business analytics assistant depending on how the job responsibilities end up mapping out. Looks like Phone bankers who were moved to customer success specialists, will go back to being customer success representatives or something similar. A search on HR Now can find all the information.

they are trimming things down and managing it at the Enterprise level instead of the lob level. I am sure there will be a lot of compensation adjustments as well. Some will come out ahead but most will probably not. end of the day instead of having 4 different families with minimal difference you will have one generic that encompasses those differences

This already happened in tech. Are they now going after the business line titles?

10K job titles?? Even 2500 is still too many.

This from the same company that a few years ago re-wrote all job descriptions and job titles. More proof that HR, like Marketing, are worthless sinkholes for cash at this company.

They got rid of the numbered in my job title last year. They dropped the 5 from my position.

I guess the specifics about this round will be sent out in Q4. Merry Christmas, you're job title will suggest you're entry level your whole career!

They did this last year, now apparently again the first of the year. Combining job titles is usually a way to hold down salaries. Another imported idea from Chase, they did it in 2015 or 2016.
