Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

St. Louis WFA 2/6/24 Layoff Thread

Lots of chatter lately, online and in the workplace, that the grim reaper might be visiting St. Louis today with pink slips in hand. I thought it would be a good idea to have a thread dedicated to this location. As the day unfolds, please post anything you know and are comfortable sharing.

With regard to WARN notices, employees are not being reported as laid off if their jobs are being transferred elsewhere. I found out when I applied for unemployment that I was listed as discharged and my function went to India. The unemployment office just didn't understand why it was listed that way since I had a lengthy severance period and they consider that being laid off.

Calm down, keyboard warrior. It’s just a bunch of people in an uncertain situation doing their best to share information. If you have nothing of substance to contribute, please move on.

Yes, "great BBQ" completely mitigates St Louis's distinction of m u r d e r capital 😄

Plenty of businesses have left crime-ridden dumps due to crime over the past few years.

WIM Ops is the biggest group in STL. Since they're looking to exit other locations, most of them would be safe in STL since it's a hub. The wildcard is if they plan on shipping to India, then nobody is safe.

Hopefully anyone in Saint Louis that posted they want a layoff notice gets one deservedly so, and it saves the job of another, more sensible employee!

St Louis. What a h e l l h o l e."

Yeah, that's the reason. All large businesses close up shop based on this one variable only. Oy.

STL has great BBQ so shaddup.

It’s looks like Wells Fargo is going with 6 'S' strategy, meaning Slim, Slot, Sale, Send, Su-k, Sc--w and Fu-k. They are selling buildings, demolishing structures, abandoned the campus, Removing Employees in US, Sending rest of the jobs to India, and finally sell the company to JPMG.

Layoffs aren't done by site but by org. Since WFA basically divided up, it could be anything else. Risk, compliance, finance, ops, coo.

because the Missouri employment office posts notices the same day WF sends it to them? You have a lot of faith in government bureaucracy

@ldy+1qWiZv7Z There are some bank functions on campus, in separate areas with their own badge swipes. It’s mostly Wells Fargo Advisors, via mergers and acquisitions that date back to A.G. Edwards. Upper WFA management has almost entirely abandoned the campus to work out of other cities. Buildings are being sold or demolished.

Ding-ding-ding! Business day has started, let’s see what happens. I’m hearing risk-oriented functions that can be automated and/or don’t involve close collaboration with the field are migrating to India.
