Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

VBG confirmed RTO 8 days a month starting 6/17

Any 8 days as defined by your manager.

Applies to ALL hybrid employees.

There is NO max radius.

Why would therebe a max radius for hybrid? The fact you are hybrid means you would need to come in some days. If you weren't coming in when you were hybrid then you were lucky. If you chose to move far away or accept the job without actually living close enough to be hybrid that is on you.

When they mention anything in regards to work from home good bye fios triple play make me spend on commuting I'll just do without your service. It always comes down to money and don't forget we are customers too.

Anything you are told outside of the FAQ doc , its a rumor. Management was given the power to flex the policy to meet their specific needs, especially for workgroup with babies crying over RTO or people planning on circumventing the system

We thought it was 8 days a month, but now we are hearing it is two days a week AND 8 days a month. Meaning, don't try to knock out the 8 days in the first two weeks. And if you are on vacation for a week or two, you need to make up those days during the rest of the month. The 'generally works out to two days a week' is more than math. Anyone hearing different?

VGS had the same announcement. RTO 8 days a month. They spouted a bunch of lies stating how people are so happy to be back in office. Stated that they (VZ mgmt) are “ok with lowered productivity” due to increased socialization because it means a “stronger company culture and cohesion”. … but let’s keep pushing for increasingly ridiculous deadlines and KPI’s, and BTW, we still aren’t replacing the people who leave. 🤮

Icing on the bullsh-t cake was when Arlene from HR told us that Cost of Living increases will NEVER happen and to be grateful for our annual 3% raises because “most companies don’t offer that”. She also said that Verizon IS paying you a “competitive wage” because they do benchmark comparisons against other companies to make sure Verizon stays in line with the industry.
I will say my favorite part of her “speech” was when she made a comment about getting boo’d off the stage last time 😂

The pushback I had received was the status was based on my job duties not where I was in particular. If theoretically I was in a hub where all my team was assigned would there be value in me being in office ever? The answer in almost all cases could always be yes especially when they throw in talking over ounch/coffee for team building.

I was told over a year ago when I asked to be reclassified as Home that requests were highly scrutinized and that it wasn’t worth the effort - oops, should have pushed more on that

Manager also given the power to ask team member to come to office more frequently, it can be higher than the minimum 2 days/week

My manager said he tried to re-classify our entire team to home based because we work all over the country and nobody on our team shares an office. He was told no. Can’t wait to drive over an hour each way sit by myself at an unassigned desk with no monitor or docking station twice a week.

I saw the email from HR shutting down work from home based on policy. Nothing to do with the specific circumstances of the employee. So while that might be the way it is supposed to work, thats not what is happening. A low level manager shut down the SVP. The SVP is responsible for hundreds of millions in revenue, but she isn't trusted to make this decision. Who's running the show?

@1ouw+1skgtu86 ohhh come on now, don’t be ridiculous!!! Who is “business critical” nowadays in an economy where people with “super power” skills are looking for work,
even if its required for them to RTO 5 days a week !

Here's how it works. Your upline has to make the case you are business critical and your talent must be retained. It all comes down to how well your leadership makes the case. If you are told no, they didn't make the case you were business critical.

We have thousands of people in all sorts of departments already assigned as home based who fall under this. It is just a matter of convincing HRBP "why now" instead of why you didn't do this before. Some that have come across were simply leadership didn't see the need to request a role change as they were flexible. Your leader has to eat some humble pie because it is an admission they dropped the ball on prior opportunities.

Was just approved for job change to Home Based because of my distance to the office. Maybe it is based on group or job function?

Im gonna bet they are getting swamped with requests now and realize this is a cluster in the making if they don't.

Danny - what are the reasons you are approving? Our SVP was told no. By the way - those non-hub satellites have nothing to bring random people together to build culture or community. Not a coffee pot, not a vending machine, nothing. Just desks, chairs and a card swipe. Meet you at the copy machine?

Not true ltg+1skgtu86. There are several valid reasons we are approving Home Based changes as long as the request comes from a senior director or above. Real Estate is also working on also getting certain other-than-hub locations back up. There is no sense having technicians go to a hub, for example, if they don't service that area.

This does not make sense for folks that was on call 24 by 7 while working 60-80 hour week.

@qdi+1skgtu86 if there was some kind of agreement, the boss should have no problem updating the WF designation to Home-Based. Problem solved.

Don't doubt for a moment this is a way to cut headcount without paying severance. And make sure you resign before they fire you with cause for not showing up as that will really hurt your chance of getting decent employment elsewhere not to mention in most states you can't get unemployment.

No max radius thing is going to be a problem for many. Especially those that agreed to roles where they were assured it was no issue.

Probably too late but I sense a mad rush for managers to try to update employees work location who live multiple states away or try and change them to remote. That whole flying from NC to NYC to commute isnt the dream linkedin makes it seem like.
