Thread regarding Citigroup Inc. / Citibank / Citi layoffs

I have yet to figure out the purpose of RTO

No revelations yet, besides my expenses going up and feeling like they want to get rid of us. I haven't met new people, I haven't expanded collaboration beyond my usual circle (whom I communicate with online), and I most definitely haven't become more creative. I do focus less, and my productivity has fallen somewhat, so there's that.

@p8

RTO makes me feel alive and part of the buzzing finance community.

When I need to focus I strap on the AS$-Less Chaps provided by CSIS or from the ground floor Art Work on display at Global Headquarters 388 New York City.

And then I'm comfortably refreshed sans Underwe@r sitting on the office chairs aaahhhhh.

Afterall, CEO Jane Fraser DID say during several Townhall Meetings that she "knows" employees will feel refreshed if we RTO.

HR and/or Deranged MDs/Directors or "Managers" are obsessed with Scatology.

They want CEO Jane Fraser To Go so that they can either Sit 🪑 on It, Or Catch It to make a Trophy 🏆Souvenir out of It.

Sort of like an Autograph 📝, but better and Solid, OR Not.

@OP

RTO is about companies' distrust.

Productivity is second or third behind optics and micromanaging.

@kx you can’t do that in Irving or you’ll have no where to park when you get back.

RTO at Citi (at least at HQ) is to justify how much they spent renovating 388 right before Covid. It's the same reason why JP is at 5 days - they spent megabucks knocking down and rebuilding 270 Park, so the little twerp needs the return on "investment."

I don’t necessarily have a problem with coming to the office. But the open floor plan is a nightmare for anyone who needs relative quiet to be productive. Nonstop phone calls taken at desks, loud trainings, team zoom meetings, and I’ve even had to sit next to someone conducting a one on one from their desk (also via zoom). Makes you wonder what the point of being in office even is.

@OP Jane said it in an interview a few years ago. It’s is to keep “slackers” checked.

I must say that for a CEO to refer to the employees like that, only points to she hasn’t completed the mandated training that we all must take.

Another beautiful day in the animal farm.

@j5 Right and in big cities like NYC or Jersey City in NJ which has thousands of Citi employees (despite the layoffs), it's also public transport $$$. Sometimes the parking garage $$$ for those that drive in from nearby like CT etc. Think about a typical NJ commuter - take the NJ transit into NYC (NJ makes money), then make a connection on the subway (NYC makes money) and hopefully, you grab a coffee or a bagel or ciggs from a bodega ...everyone makes money. One su-ke errr employee = federal tax, state tax, city propertyh tax (if owns a house), sales tax from eating (unless carrying from home), commuter $$$ and sometimes employer cafeteria $$$.
One employee...a dozen leeches living off that employee

@ds It isn't that they didn't care - they didn't track if you were coming into the office as you were obligated to do. Quit f** crying about having to work in an office to earn your 6 figure salary as opposed to sitting at home earning for doing half the work.

First off, it isn't for YOU to understand. If you want to continue working at a place that is RTO hybrid or full time then you abide - simple. Also, the RTO is more involved than simply the cost of facilities for Citi. Citi campuses are huge and are next to other huge campuses that employ tens of thousands (if not more) in the area. There are hundreds of small businesses around these large corporate campuses that depend on the foot traffic of the employees that work at these campuses. These people go to lunch, take business meals, shop, etc these local businesses which drives sales tax revenue to the city.
When there are no longer tens of thousands of people commuting to the campuses on a daily basis then these businesses tend to close down and the cities lose huge amounts of tax revenue.
So, other than Citi wanting to bring their people back to the office (which is perfectly fine and you're either onboard or you're not and you go elsewhere) the cities that these campuses are in depend on the workers.
You can bet your a$$ that the cities that once provided hundreds of millions in tax breaks to the Citibanks, the JPMs, the Well Fargos, etc to bring their campuses and workers there in order to BENEFIT from the people tax revenue are pressuring Citi (and the others) to bring their workers back or lose their tax breaks.
Think beyond the "evil corporations" - the state and cities have a stake in RTO as well.

@OP RTO justifies expense for every occupied chair about 50$ a day of telephony, internet etc.. in addition to rent paid by vendors for the cr-ppy cafeteria with overpriced merchandise. Nothing benefiting the employee. This whole collaboration pitch is useless when over 80% of your team is located elsewhere while meeting on zoom.

@ah
same. I am not paid well enough to afford ridiculously overpriced sub-par food and coffee, let alone face ripping tipping demands outside the office. subway tickets is my only price of participation in the workforce.
as layoffs escalate, business , banks including, should notice loss of revenue, so C better move to India to boost customer base

For this reason, I make no expenditure other than the fuel to get me to and from. Bring the exact same coffee I’d drink at home and the exact same lunch I eat at home.

Bank is obviously going to protect the commercial real estate market interests, which involves you slaving away at your office desk, paying for $20 slop bowls, and spending an hour commuting each way

But you bought a $12 salad and a $6 coffee so the bodega on the corner does not go out of business. That's what it is about, all the tax breaks the cities give Citi to move in and now its time to pay it back.
