Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Any news on NSRL?

OK, I have been stressed all day today. Heard some rumors that NSRL will be hit in May! I thought we were done with it back in Novemeber. Where these rumors are coming from? Any one has heard the same? Can't take this for another 3 months. Most of us do research here and it needs concentration....

@oxw+1rcOrTef letting go of a main appatel researcher with decades of experience and hiring an adi footwear researcher sure helped apparel! 🤣

Innovation and Innovation research must be relevant to product creation OR to the improved performance of Nike athlete assets. Often information coming from the NSRL is either completely misunderstood or glossed over in favor of a desired design or aesthetic direction- often with no proven performance benefit. It's up to the NSRL leadership to effectively shepherd this information into the categories. This hasn't been done in apparel for at least eight years. That falls on NXT Apparel leadership as well as the NSRL staff and MN. The lack of true and relevant innovation in Nike apparel is sad and inexcusable.

@uda+1rcOrTef clearly someone on the favoritism side. NXT leadership is full of assumptions and bias. They don’t empower their teams and instead think their view is the only way. They spend more time re-strategizing than doing the work and there is a clear club of “in” people who get exposure and opportunities while the rest are ignored even if we do approach and trt to build rapport directly. That they spent time and effort to “save” a few select random people in the last round while laying off the entire rest of the team should tell you they aren’t looking at things equitably.

HAHAHAHA the leaders protect us. Sure. The last round of layoffs they got rid of random people who had incredible backgrounds and saved a few random favorites who su-ked up to leadership. I sure feel like they’re protecting all of us, and doing an amazing job steering us in the right direction

Hey original OP here. I do not know why this thread wrapped into hate on MN. I do not have anything against him or any other leaders and I feel our organization is already thin. We do not have four layers of VP or Sr Dirs... I only heard the rumors that may ver well he circulated by those outside of Nike with ill intention. Buy is it too much to ask MN to have a brief with us?

If you lose the NSRL LT or AIC LT you will pay the price even more given they spend a lot of time protecting the work and people in the lab. Be really careful what you wish for! Grass is not greener with other leadership and I don't see anyone upcoming that I would advocate taking over. If youre not happy, make a move elsewhere and give someone else a shot or go talk to leadership directly with concerns. Quit backstabbing leaders that have sacrificed for you but can't or wont share all the dirty details.

@rqo+1rcOrTef how shallow minded you are! Beautiful facility??? I rather work in an ugly facility but maintain my mental health and not having a CEO email me about layoffs on Christmas!
No one complained about working with athletes or being around sport. We expect our leaders to have a 20 minutes chat with us and clarify if we get hit again or not! That is all! And yes corporate America does not guarantee a job but I do not know any other corporate that goes through this sh-t every 3 years!
There is only one person between MN and CEO. He should know the answer but either he lies or he does not care to clarify... MS is that you? AMV did you write this???

This is absurd. It started with someone worried and ended in people wanting someone at the top of the NSRL to get let go? Clearly over the past week if you’ve been paying attention, you would realize that you work in corporate America and the notion that you are ever 100% guaranteed a job is ridiculous. That’s just the truth and anyone who expects otherwise should opt out of corporate all together.
Now, for the people wishing ill on MN, do everyone a favor, and just quit. You work in a beautiful state of the art science facility. If it’s so terrible to work with athletes and around sport, why don’t you go back to academia.

The entire top layer of NXT and the NSRL needs to go. Utterly inept people who were mediocre at best, back in the day, and are now fully incompetent.

What really scares me about NSRL is that they did not even touch its leadership team in November but random IC were let go! So I am scared to death what will happen in May? Like random researchers will let go? Been with Nike for a decade. They typically strike once and move on so the team can recover. Can't even imagine NSRL get hit yet again! I really hope someone in HR or leadership sees this and do some clarification. Letting rumors take over the stage and productivity and morale go down hill

@wuk+1rcOrTef and the whole leadership team. Pulse results tanking for years it's comical. Keep letting smart folks go while hiring faux science people and talkers.

I have not met one person who says current structure of innovation is set up are for success and just letting a few random people go (who unfortunately made a large impact) isn’t enough. All of Lebron needs a broad restructuring
