Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

If we go back to an office, we’re incentivizing the company to send jobs overseas.

Work from home will prevent jobs being outsourced due to ONE thing. It saves the company money. Bringing us to an office will force the company to send more calls overseas to save a buck. We all know that there are people who would quit if we return. We all know that disability will go through the roof. We all know going back to an office will be the final nail on the coffin for the union.

You need to factor in loaded costs when you throw around salaries and wages - 1.5 x hourly rate is fairly accurate.

Payroll is the biggest cost to a company, especially in the US, which is why outsourcing to the tu-d world is so attractive,

@bhj, do you know VZ leases most of it's buildings worldwide including some contact centers? It controls monthly costs. The leasing company handles all the maintenance and insurance costs. In many cases, it even covers cleaning. Sometimes they operate amenities like cafeterias and gyms. Years ago, we even sold that big building in Texas to a leasing company, and immediately signed a 10 or 12yr lease.

I don't think real estate costs are as impactful as you seem seem to think.

You fools don’t even remember winter 2019/2020 before the pandemic. They were selling time then. Only reason it got busy was the pandemic accelerated the need for internet. Selling time has nothing to do with outsourcing, it has to do with volume of calls.

Working from home saves a ton of money for Verizon. No maintenance, no property taxes, no building insurance, no utilities, etc, etc. going back means they’ll be forced to make up for that somehow. That will come at the expense of our job.

You people put out misleading figures, threats, and lies. You’re no better than the people trying to get rid of jobs.

Also, learn the difference between to, too, and two. You’re making an embarrassment of yourself Ed.

Does everybody remember Animal House... The scene where the Omegas shuffle Flounder and Pinto into the nerd room so the cool people can ignore them?

Well, work from home is kinda like that.

Yeah, and with all the calls going overseas, we can't even strike. The scabs are already in place in india. They won't even notice we're gone. Where are we gonna picket?

For 7 years in a row. It’s been mandatory overtime and unlimited overtime, since we started working from home, they offer surplus starting at 2pm-7pm everyday day. We are getting maybe 10 calls a day. Verizon says they not sending calls overseas but from a few people that are higher up, Verizon wants us back in the office and the union doesn’t and that’s Verizon position all along, so they sending calls. No overtime no nothing.

Why pay 1 rep $25 hour when they can pay 6 or more overseas for the same rate? WFH has made this transition so much easier now.

Aww that hurt your whittle feelings. You clearly are too stupid to realize this was Verizons Plan all along. Hope you like Golden showers because Verizon will continue to pi-s on your leg and tell you it's raining.

I think we can all agree that home based reps won't be saving any jobs from going to another country. It might slow the bleeding, but nothing will be saved.

@1fht+1ekYMLCV This sounds like Ed.

Your arguments are weak, childish, and have no backing. Previous person made a statement, gave a reason, had a conclusion. You just say no without anything to add. Childish and emotional.

Doesn’t matter what you say, since this is an anonymous board, and I agree with the others that you are most likely not a Verizon employee, at least not a current one.

@ngx+1ekYMLCV....

"If we go back to an office, we’re incentivizing the company to send jobs overseas.

  • no it doesn't, and no it won't.

"Bringing us to an office will force the company to send more calls overseas to save a buck."

  • office or no, the company alredy has plenty of incentive to send calls overseas.

"We all know that there are people who would quit if we return."

  • good.

We all know that disability will go through the roof."

  • also, good... it's proof we don't need domestic reps. It's justification for headcount
    reduction

"We all know going back to an office will be the final nail on the coffin for the union."

  • will it, really?

Soooooo, you agree that keeping us home saves the company money. Lol, this is ridiculous! We all know that, which is why everyone wants ti stay home. By the way, can anyone tell me where a rep makes $15/hour. Supposedly, that was someone who “sees” the numbers. These aren’t even Verizon employees anymore.

@dlb is comparing the lowest pay for a UNION rep working from HOME to the highest pay for a FOREIGN rep in the OFFICE. In other words, they are NOT including the cost of the office for the union rep, but they ARE including it for the foreign rep.
So the cost of a WFH US rep is $15 an hour or MORE... the costs of an office based foreign rep is $9 an hour or LESS! So, the cheapest union rep costs $6 an hour more than the. Highest paid foreign rep.
They are leaving costs out... benefits, but I highly doubt VZ pays as much for foreign rep benefits as they have to for union reps benefits.

@eer+1ekYMLCV That person certainly doesn’t know what the lowest does. His numbers are off and twisted to scare people. Leaving out details he’s afraid to show, since his point would be disproven.

@dlb+1ekYMLCV This clown is only telling half the story and his numbers are way off. If the company brings us back to an office they need to spend money on maintenance, taxes, utilities, insurance, and more. Keeping us home saves them money.

@otf+1ekYMLCV That’s cute that you believe all the money spent on keeping an office open isn’t part of the reason why they’ve been outsourcing for years. You must believe your genitals are superior to others. How quaint? Bless your heart.

The NYS Governor is pushing for NYC workers to return to their offices, I suppose to help support the "local" economy e.g. lunch counters, street vendors, etc. But consider the carbon impact of everyone climbing into the trains, buses, personal vehicles, etc. I love their obsession with global warming until it affects the bottom line of their constituents.

@dlb+1ekYMLCV Yeah, you really know what you’re talking about there, buddy! Haha, leave the scaring the masses to the news networks. Also, it would help if you had your figures correct. I’m beginning to think the people who want the office aren’t even Verizon employees.

The lowest paid union reps get paid about $15/hr.
The highest paid non-US reps get paid the equivalent of $5/hr.
The cost to support a non-US rep in the office is about $4/hr.
So, $9/hr total if the non-us rep works in the office.
Where would you send the calls if you were paying for it?

Do want to punish Verizon for some reason or other?
Let me explain FMLA, or any absence to you...
Say we have 100 reps at $15/hrs. $12000/day
Say there's 5000 calls daily. That's $2.40/call.

Now... say 50 reps go out.
It still costs $12000/day, but because we only have 50% of the reps, it'll cost $4.80/call. That's assuming the remaining reps can handle picking up the slack.... if not, calls go out. Every call not answered domestically allows us to make a case for domestic headcount reduction.

Verizon has been a Toxic work environment ever since Hanz took over.
All he cares about is Outsourcing, Offshoring, VSP, RIF aka Layoffs in order to remove the most tenured, talented higher paid employees, in order to pay for 5ghee. This was an Employee first, People first company, but not anymore
Verizon is now the toxic, cesspool of a typical corporation who only cares about $$$ & share holders.
Working from Home is the ONLY Sane option we have left. Please don’t take this away. Don’t send us back to the germ infested office.
