Lead BECS

Anyone ever feel BECs especially at the Lead to Senior Lead level have an air of arrogance? Why is that?

Okay why is there so much hate for BEC's? I'm a Sr. Lead and I'm working on pto days and evenings to keep up with the insanity. I don't think I'm any better than anyone else and I don't see that with anyone on my team either. Maybe I'm lucky to be on a good team?

I never could figure out if the BEC was a technical role or a management role. If a BEC is a technical role then they would be business analyst, data analyst, data scientist, data architect (but the "firm" has these as well). Perhaps the BEC fills the management roles of project management, communication, and problem-solving. This turns the "real managers", such as LOB management into "facilitators". In retrospect I found, as a coder, I had to do most of the requirement gathering, elicitation and testing as I had to reengineered 100% of the applications I touched.

Because they are very senior roles bottom line. Just a couple levels down from executive. Some former executives became senior Lead or Principal. It really comes down to pay when they do title realignment. Lower pay = lower title. Senior leads and leads in many areas are at the table with the execs. Pay is much lower and all over the place. I've had several senior leads tell me they were being paid base salary 159, 165, 200, 225, up to 250. I'm sure there's some lower and a little higher. In an role someone will feel there are others that push papers, are arrogant or stupid. That happens in every role at every level.

Senior to whom, exactly?

Because they have to deal with simpletons, asking ridiculous questions, (this topic illustrates the point), during their work day.

Some BECs are actually very senior and similar to directors. Some are entry level useless PowerPoint pushers. Your mileage may vary

Can they define the business they are trying to improve?

I like the euphemisms they come up with for entry level plebes not in charge of anyone or anything.
