Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

What's up with Level Up?

There was lots of talk about this at the end of the year and supposedly the first non-pilot round is occuring some time in June. What's the status? What's the process? How are we getting these level up promos?? Would be helpful if the company communicated so one could prepare.

Very political process. Bully managers get promotions.

Progression eligible means there needs to be a job title to move to within your current job category (for example Operations Support), whether it's in your same band (7 > 7) or the next band up (7 > 6). Additionally based on budgets, not all jobs will be eligible for every cycle. HR will determine which titles are eligible for each cycle. Bottom line, if you are already at the highest title in your job category for a band 6, there is no where for you to progress. In that case you'd want to be using the staffing process to look for laterals or promotions outside your current job category. With all the changes in profiles and management levels with the workday conversion, you can start by checking with your supervisor to see if you have room to progress.

And to another poster's point, you do need to be considered as already performing at the higher role, however you do not have to have leading ratings.

Curious to know what “progression eligible” and “room to move up in their band” mean

"your current title has to be progression eligible"

What does this mean?

Level Up takes the place of JEF that were submitted to help retain talent that is performing past their role. These individuals were listed as leading or exceeding the previous year. In 2024 it will likely only be band 6 and 7 and very, very few people impacted that have room to move up in their current band as individual contributors that meet the aforementioned criteria. if you are reading this - it is not you.

Op here, thanks for the qualification deets. Here's to hoping I get bumped up to the title and pay I should have for the level of work I'm currently doing 🤞

Wish there were a more legit process in place that actually involves the person seeking promo

variation in rules depending on whether current 7 or current 6

  • your current title has to be progression eligible
  • must be rated performing or better
  • must meet time in current title rules
  • finally and most important, the org is constrained by budget (of course), so not everyone eligible will progress

level up is a promotion to the next level ,but a reduction in pay to the next level down .170 billion in debts and growing

Last years title change created a gap between bands 6s and bands 7s in many areas. Levelup seems like it is going to just move some people back where they were and leave others behind.

The qualifications are you need to be an individual contributor in your current position at least 1 year, doing Leading or in rare cases High Performing work, and your AD and SrDirector both think you deserve a promotion. It's a standard promotion. It has nothing to do with last year's title changes.

So if it's a qualify or not, what are the qualifications??

It's leadership's way of moving the goal posts, change the rules to make it harder to get promoted.

LevelUp is just a new name for the standard promotion that has always been available to high performers. It potentially happens 2x per year. End of story.

Have these exact questions it’s been months and hasn’t been brought up once. No one has heard anything or is acting like they don’t know any updates. it’s not clear what this is supposed to be. Is it an actual promotion in title and compensation? How can teams adjust for compensation if the headcount is the same?

What is it that you're expecting to happen? The titles changed and nothing else. End of story.

It's coming soon. Be patient. I imagine there will be communication closer to launch. And it's not something you can prepare for, you either qualify or you don't.

They’ll probably update the edirectory before they tell you about the changed title.

My boss mentioned something about it a few months ago and seeing if they could get their boss to put my name in for it. Havn’t heard a peep anout it since then from them or anywhere else really. Kinda like it was an oops and they hope we forget.
