Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

After being laid off, I’m actually feeling a surprising sense of relief

I've been unhappy here for a long time. This gives me a chance to reset and look for a role that fits my skills and values better. Good luck to the rest of you. I know you'll need it.

I have been waiting to be laid-off! Am sick of my toxic boss and ever changing, ever increasing workload. Been here for 25 plus years and just want a push to get done, and of course the severance. Wish me luck to be chosen in the next round :)

@qe 10000000000% exactly. The sad thing is, the people who ran my GBU….the most useless and toxic people ive ever worked with. Once i realized that, I lived cheap, saved big and gave them a big middle finger when they tried to promote me and give me no raise. Sick people. Some day I will see the woman who crapped on me. She’s been trash since day one but I believe she will leave and never have another former co worker ever contact her.

@n0 It always pays to be frugal and a saver. Drive paid for cars that are reliable. Only eat out on special occasions, etc. Plus that way when you retire your monthly budget will have a surplus and not a deficit. I have seen lot of Teslas and other pricey cars at the office parking lot, parked next to old beaters.

Anyone in their late 30s to their mid 50s should have savings from work at oracle. If you were living high on the hog thinking this money tree would be forever, that’s d-mb. I knew I would leave oracle or be laid off over my 15 years. I lived frugally, didn’t buy all the fancy things. Today I don’t need a job but I can be picky. I remember when my old manager said he bought himself a corvette. Those are the kind of dummies that deserve the pain they get. Oracle could never be trusted them and it can’t now. The mgmt are heartless and subhuman. It’s been that way for decades. Anyone surprised ahout getting laid off just doesn’t know oracle. They’re the cheating spouse. Always looking for some way to scam you or find your replacement.

@b3 There was talk of DOGE rebates a few months ago, but that died on the vine. I doubt there will be any stimmy checks.

"Our group lost a few who were close to retiring"

Many were waiting to turn 65 to qualify for Medicare. Now they will have to choose between COBRA or a crummy Obamacare plan.

What's the quote.... "the living will envy the dead" while you're working you're worried about the job, once you're cut free, all that stress is gone. It's replaced with other stresses but all the what ifs that you had little personal control over has now been replaced by a lot of knowns that you do have control over. All the reasons you had not not looking for another job are also gone and you have a nudge pushing you into a move that you may not have wanted but at least now it's been made, so you can stop being anxious over it.

Our group lost a few who were close to retiring anyway but also a few who had no plans. The job market is never as good as you would like but it can always be worse.

@a8 are you interested in actually reading what he wrote or are you only interested in dismissing what he has to say?

PPI numbers came out this morning and they're up 1%

For the first two weeks, you may get calls for 1st interview, but starting the third week when you hardly get a call, it will hit you that it's not that great without a paycheck or healthcare. Then depression starts and loneliness. Good Luck! The US economy, geopolitical issues, and politics are going to cause a lot of stress to many people. Prices on almost everything going up, even those products made in USA because of corporate greed. No one is going to sell you something for $10 bucks if the competition is charging customers $15 (due to tariffs). The US company will sell it for slightly less at $13.99. More Americans are going to be in debt even if stimulus checks are sent out, cause stimulus checks aren't a monthly paycheck and neither are tax cuts.

Same. I was laid off but honestly much less anxious and more relaxed since. Cheers to new opportunities and a new chapter.

I've been feeling that way too. My team hasn’t been impacted by the layoffs, but if they reach us, I’m going to pull a Katniss and volunteer... then take a break for months.
