Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

miscalculations.

i was laid off - architecture team managed under EFT. over a 100 impacted on super Tuesday. on wednesday the team was decentralized.

back to the days of run it like you own it mindset that got us in regulatory jail.

also a new leader announced as chief architect of fourth largest banks. someone. who has no background in architecture and the previous leader who was awesome likely will be canned… lawsuit???

seriously … where is the organization headed. one bad decision after another

one more .. the head of cloud left abruptly last friday and the new guy that took over … part of the hagerman clan, has no cloud experience…i have worked with in the past and he is stubborn as he-l

brady as a leader needs to make his own choice and not be bullied by opinions of his peers

TK is likely in a tough spot with severe budget reductions but i think her LT has played her and she is making. decisions that are irrational and detrimental

cuts are part of business but one needs to smart to cut in the right placs

TK, her cos, tlt including sh, km, ts are some of the mos disingenuous people

is anyone reporting this disarray to regulators … this puts out members money and trust at risk

CTO who got fired last week was caught taking bribes from Indian companies, taking commissions discretely in India. Non performance was another reason.

Seems either pretty negligent or calculated move to destroy architecture.

TK has no tech experience.
KM has no tech experience.
CH who was made head of what's left of EA and governance has no experience.

And, let's face it, India has no experience and has been a failure in execution, control and efficiency.

Not sure what the game plan is, but it looks like we're taking losses all around.

Just ran these thru Gemini:
Summary of Risks to the Bank: Miscalculations
The bank is at risk due to several miscalculations in its recent layoffs, particularly within the Enterprise Architecture (EA) team. Here's a breakdown of the key points:

Loss of Institutional Knowledge: Layoffs targeted senior architects with a deep understanding of the bank's complex systems. This knowledge gap can lead to:

Major outages: Inexperienced engineers, especially those offshore, might not understand how interconnected applications are, causing critical failures.
Cybersecurity breaches: Lack of expertise in cybersecurity increases vulnerability to attacks.
Weakened Governance:

Decentralizing the EA team and putting someone with potentially no architecture background in charge of governance creates confusion and inconsistency.
Layoffs of tenured managers further erode knowledge and oversight.
Poor Leadership:

The bank is criticized for promoting an inexperienced "yes man" to a leadership position, potentially prioritizing loyalty over competence.
Decisions by TK, the CTO (Chief Technology Officer), are seen as irrational and driven by cost-cutting rather than long-term strategy.
Offshoring Risks:

Shifting critical tasks to less experienced personnel in India could exacerbate existing problems and create communication challenges.
These miscalculations could significantly decline the bank's technological capabilities and stability, ultimately impacting customer trust and financial security.

+1 Hagerman is disingenuous. He may have some developer experience, but he sold his soul, and tacitly sells out U.S. devs like the rest of them.

Architecture getting blown up is hilarious. Most app teams don’t seem to understand how their applications are interconnected and need to pull in an architect for troubleshooting complex issues.

@lrg+1rqwFoHK

The loss of the architects with deep knowledge of our systems is a huge risk. The newer engineers (especially in India) have no idea how our complex systems work. We will see major outages and cybersecurity breaches because of it.

@yln+1rqwFoHK Cybersecurity is not a place where you want someone with little knowledge of that space. It’s complex to begin with and ge-z how many CISOs have we gone thru in the past few years.

@thx+1rqwFoHK Manish’s days are numbered. With federating EA and governance moving to new person that leaves him without a chair when the music stops. Some managers were let go in EA on Tuesday as well. With the reorg and layoffs I expect more management to get laid off-span of control etc.

Not only did they decimate EA but they’re going to add work to the remaining architects by having more involvement in delivery. On top of that they got rid of many tenured people who know where why things work the way they do. You can hire skills. You can’t hire corporate knowledge. And yeah. They handed arch governance to someone who I don’t think has any architecture background. I think she was a TK hire as well.

It’s gonna be a chaotic cluster f the rest of this year given how sad cloud migration is plus data center migrations.

Moving stuff to India will make things worse not better.

For the comments giving TK some latitude, folks she is not in a hard space or being played nor should anyone have had high hopes for her.
She is horrible. In over her head. Has no idea about technology or its components. Just protecting her biggest paycheck ever since she was essentially fired from her last job.

Next month you will find that the "doers" will all be from India. Tech was already destroyed. As @tjd+1rqwFoHK said "No need for actual tech experience or knowledge if all you're doing is winding it down. "
They put in their "yes" guys and shut it down. Then they will replace these "yes" guys with offshored Indians backed by an AI-generated model. They are replacing the incompetent with the offshored service.

When architecture is not a direct report to the CTO (tk), one realizes that CTO is NOT a technologist (or the come from JPMC).

I had such high hopes for TK. Another let down.

Sad times ahead for WF.

What we're witnessing is the slow destruction of WF tech. HY believes that the people they are putting in charge need skills in budget cutting and downsizing, because that's all they'll be doing. No need for actual tech experience or knowledge if all you're doing is winding it down. What they'd like is all of tech to just be a service, that's provided by India and maybe a few domestic contractors. You guys aren't alone, many other groups are being treated the same way. FHY / FCS.
