Thread regarding Capital One layoffs

OneAWS

I think we can consolidate all of Capital One's technical projects into one project - One AWS. That we we won't have teams running around building OneService1, OneService2, ... OneServiceN.

This will be very efficient too - just ask AWS to create an OEM version of all the AWS services and provide a rebadged version of the AW Console, errrr OneConsole.

Note to leadership: if you do this you can layoff everyone :)

To the last poster I agree. Poor HR leadership from the CEO down that tortures and fires employees using poor performance calibration metrics.

That's a pretty blanket statement you made.

There's a lot of good work done in the cloud at C1.
There are a few forces that are destroying the tech groups though.

  1. Attrition of talented folks (engineering, architecture, product) due to politics, garbage calibration system and nepotism.
  2. As a corollary, a lot of those retained are the brown-nosers and old guard who don't want any new technologies. They are self sabotaging these projects without realizing that they are looking at change that is inevitable and they need to embrace it.

Their use of cloud infrastructure is a nightmare due to high learning curve and poor quality engineering leadership. This organization is a textbook example of why others should not fully move their environments to the cloud.
