Thread regarding Illumina Inc. layoffs

Workplace has turned toxic

I used to enjoy the teamwork here, but now, everyone is competing just to block each other. It’s hard to focus when it seems like sabotage and bullying are not only accepted, but even encouraged. I can't believe how much the culture has shifted in such a short time.

Toxicity is up 100%. It's been acknowledged many times but dept heads are also the same people who feed/provide the toxicity.

You bring it up to them to try and resolve some of it, and their usual response is " what toxicity, our group is doing fine, no one else has this issue". They prefer not to listen and try to help the cause, instead they ignore and go on their way.

The layoff.com should be the new ipulse survey, it gives them the truth on things 😂

Agreed R&D is definitely drowning.
RSUs removed, salary increase at minimal, the constant neverending "we're looking into seeing how we can reward you all after removing RSUs". The usual team member saying "I'm not helping you, or I don't have time to help" is now a usual comment I hear, sooo mich for team focused strategy. Fun times fun times

@kp couldn’t agree more. Never been more horrified and heartbroken honestly when Jacob said that after removing 20% of our income and he was laughing about it. The destruction of motivation, morale, trust, passion is all gone with everybody. Look at the face of the employees during those Meetings it on campus.
So sad.

The whole company is a toxic hellscape atm. And that isn’t going to change.

I’ve never worked anywhere previously where the collapse in trust, integrity and shared goals has been so sudden and so catastrophic. And in the main part it’s been caused by two leadership teams under Francis and Jacob respectively.

When you have the CPO - at a company meeting standing up and saying that people don’t work for money, so benefits are not needed, because it’s “the people you meet along the way” that really count. In front of the CEO - you know it’s over. And trust is like a mirror once it breaks you can’t put it back together again.

Commercial has been a toxic mess for a while. In Europe, if you are lucky enough to be in the inner circle you are fine. Otherwise you are looking over your shoulder and worrying about your job all the time.

Talking of work toxicity, nothing will beat some department in APAC operation. Where bullying is a previlige given only to people in their circle.

R&D or commercial. In R&D, I still find the work experience similar, we are all more frustrated with the cut of RSUs and minimal salary increases, but we are all in the same boat (except AD and above :p)
