Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Can someone gives me career advice for negotiating?

My role has been impacted during April restructuring. I was placed in a very irrelevant position that has nothing to do with my education or skills AT ALL!
I applied to external jobs and I was interviewed by 2 companies : One in Denver and One in Fort Meyers. Both companies made offer but here is the catch, the one in Florida actually has opened a position for Portland! but they interviewed me for Fort Meyers...I just did not see this at the time I applied. I was panicking and just wanted to apply.
Long story short, how should I approach this with them and ask if they are willing to consider me for their Portland position? None of these companies offer relocation assistance and both pays are lower than Nike but at least relevant to my background. It is very hard to relocate. Any advice would be greatly appreciated...

Update: Asked and still waiting to hear back! Also the company flew me to Florida for an in person interview where two of interviewers did not show up and two were home and just logged into zoom! 20 plus hours in air travel just so I sit in their Florida office and zoom call others.. Tell me you are toxic without telling me you are toxic ... 😤

Never hurts to ask, just be polite and see if you can fill that job if applicable. If not, at least you know you tried.

It’s scary but the worst case is them to say no and you move to fort meyer

Just ask. Say “given I noticed you were also looking for similar role in Portland, I am curious if it would make sense for me to stay as it would allow me to hit the ground running immediately. “

You need to ask yourself- is this truely the same role? Team? Hiring manager? Otherwise they would need to re interview you. But if same job different location, maybe worth pitching as a win-win to start asap vs need time for setup and relo…

@bnu+1tAq74Jr Hey Thanks a lot for asking. You are right. This is how it was unrolled. The only position that they had advertised was in Fprt Myers. When I went for interview, the recruiter said they have an open position for Portland but after almost 4 months, they did not find anyone for it. It is kind of a mixture of a lot of skills which I happen to have. The recruiter said at some point they decided not to renew the add on LinkedIn but it is still listed on their website.... Any advice how ai approach this? Thank you

curious why would you apply if you weren't open to relocating? I'm an laid off Nike recruiter and wouldn't put someone thru the hiring process of they werent open to relocation.

Seems like it would be completely valid for you to ask the recruiter about the Portland position and see if there is a way to redirect for that one without losing out on the fort meyers one.

Side note, Denver housing prices are higher than Pdx and not projected to drop anytime soon.

@kjf+1tAq74Jr I am so pi---d at myself. Apparently I am blind not to see their Portland location. Yes recruiter, I mean their HR knows that I am in Portland. With these interest rates I just can't bring myself to relocate but I also know it is a tough job market and I am going through he'll at Nike. I am gonna ask anayway

Remember the hiring manager is different as well the applicants you’re against.
While there’s nothing wrong with talking to the recruiter about it, there’s zero guarantee you would get the Portland job

It would make no sense for you to relo to FL if they have a job right where you are! Doesn’t the recruiter have your location? Simply tell them you would much rather stay in Portland and you saw the Portland role after interviewing for the FL one. Would be ridiculous if they said that wasn’t an option.
