I'm still employed but just got another job offer (after turning down 2 others).

@yb that’s one of the place strong connections help, if they are willing to go out of their way (not just a referral). Hiring Managers and recruiters can totally pull your resume back from the trash pile if any ATS throws it there. I promise you.

And good luck getting past the AI screeners that most companies are using these days looking for keywords, degrees, etc. and ignoring the real content of your resume.

You will get rejected at some jobs in minutes thanks to that "advancement".

@wp (same poster, just follow up)
I genuinely think networking and good interviews is what helped me the most. And I didn’t do these overnight, they’ve been years in the making. Especially for most GT-type roles interviews are highly templated so just accept you need to study for that format, doesn’t matter how good you are in the actual job if you don’t know the recipe for the interviews. And yes, that probably means there’s people better than me at the job that just don’t interview well.

The sad part is you might be ready for all the above yet still not hearing back. The job market is brutal indeed.

@ke everyone loves to give advise without living the experience. Do you not think those of us who haven’t found work aren’t looking outside Portland, outside industry, upskilling with additional certifications and degrees? It’s not always so simple. So much unemployed talent and the market is the worst one I’ve seen in my 25 years working

I left by myself in May and got 3 great offers. Super lucky in this job market but also, none of them in Portland, which I know is a non negotiable for many. It does make things harder.

Take the time to diversify your skills! Not everything is being devoured by AI

Portland is very limited in tech opportunities and development unfortunately. Look outside of PDX and be creative

Majority of the companies are not hiring in US. See MM from EDAI announcing multiple Director level hiring in ITC.

No. And also not since 2024. Read the room. This is the worst job market in modern history.
