In a recent meeting MD said costs are still too high and that, yet another, round of layoffs is needed in next 6 months.

Never stay at a job out of “loyalty.” The job would never show you the same respect.
Coworkers come and go. The people you feel loyal to now won’t even remember your name in 10 years. That’s businesss.

As for JD, MD will do the dirty work, with a smile, and then we will be laid off as well.
She was hand picked by JD. That should tell you everything about the misguided future.
I made it through and have considered staying out of loyalty to my team (I actually really love the people I work with). I can't keep doing this. I'm moving forward with exploring some external opportunities I normally would've declined.
This constant fear is too much.

When did she say this? I thought all clear message was to share everything is good.
What she means is she needs more money to try out more shiny tools with her peeps.
If she says they are needed, you have no right to question her. She needs to travel for more marathons.
