Useless Assistant Managers (Retail Stores)

Why is Verizon not getting rid of or cutting down to just one assistant manager? They serve no real purpose. Who on here witness it on daily basis? They do not do anything but sit in the backroom and be on social media

Sounds like you have an issue with your general manager, not your assistant managers. I’ve never seen an AM act like that in my entire district. They’re the most hard working and dedicated across the board at all of our stores. It would be a detriment to lose them.

I believe the assistant managers are the backbone of the store so if you have a lousy assistant manager the store would also be lousy but if your assistant manager is good so will your store be. I disagree with this statement

They will never get rid of them, they need someone to pass the blame to when numbers don't happen. Also they need someone to manufacture a fear of losing your job when they feel you aren't doing enough.

Come try to fill my shoes. I work hard and make the store successful. AMs deal with Corp leaders, sales reps, customers, merchandising, inventory, performance related numbers, escalations, traffic control and a host of other items everyday. Take us away and everyone's job becomes harder. Be careful what you ask for.

Nah, my GM is useless, sits in the back all day, comes and goes as they please, talks on the phone all day, meanwhile the 2 sms do all their own work, help on the floor, check in inventory, put out fires and do all the stuff the GM doesn't do, our GM, ( like many others I've had ) is useless, and makes everyone's job harder!

This post is made by trolls or Corp to divide us and pit us against each other. There will always be a few bad apples. Solidarity and together we are stronger. We all have the same goals and are getting screwed by the same big wigs slack jockeys

Fake news. Unless this is a trial run, none of our stores in the OWP area have 1 SM. It would be damn near impossible to run a store with a RM and one SM especially with the limited staffing and the hours that don’t make sense. If they were to move the hours to 10-6, then I could see it but not possible and totally fake news. Nice try, union sc-m.

The so called “Key Holders” should give up the fake position with no increase in their pay immediately and let these SMs “Actually” DO their job, instead of just Tok Toking at the back & harassing employees that if it doesn’t go their way, they would get written up, &/or stuff will go into their digital locker. Whoever is a key holder is given fake promises that hey, if ur a key holder, that’s going to lead you into a management role in near future. But then “Age” based discrimination takes place and only 18-21 year olds are given this position. We have to shed some light on that too which is a dark and “Hidden” side of Verizon. I really hope this ignites like Wild Fire in the Social Media and everyone gets to know about it.

As an SM myself, I would say this is totally false. but I'm sure everyone's experience is different. I work way harder and way more hours than anyone in the building. I have to handle the door in a store that had more than 5000 door swings last month. I have to deal with reps that never show up. I have to deal with all of the escalations that happen because my reps don't pay attention to what they are doing. I'm never in the back unless I am doing one of the million things I'm required thats not on the floor. I have to check in inventory, do returns, make sure I have stupid quality of sale conversations. On top of that, I make half of my pay for anything over 40 hours. Which I'm always over 40 because my gm and the other sm are so checked out. I get the calls at 9 am from the reps when someone doesn't show up and I'm not scheduled. One person cannot handle this effectively.

It surprises me but doesn’t shock me that SM’s in this company make a lot more money then a specialist when factually speaking they do less work. Obviously this slightly differs from location to location but the role itself has been watered down since covid and lower staffing levels. Open/close stores and mostly greet does not qualify someone to make an average of 10k more then a sales rep doing more work. I don’t even know how and why Verizon even justifies this. It’s the easiest job anyone can have in retail but i still don’t want it because i refuse to drink the Kool Aide and act phony.

Damn that sucks you have that going on in your store but in my store, every manager is working all the time. They will greet and do all the basic troubleshooting and try to get the small stuff fixed and if we have more than one manager, the other one will be on floor with us selling and helping customers. Sometimes I feel they work more than me. I have been in a store where they have been just a greeter and sign people in for a bill payment to sit and wait an hour.

You prefer them to sit on their phone in the front with you?

For real though bad SMs suck. Too many promoted for the wrong reasons that aren't relevant in today's era of Verizon.

Corporate agrees. By continuing to get rid of the useless retail stores. I'd advise everyone without a rainy day stash to know when their lease is up.
