Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Many people didn’t even RTO

My team has 12 people and only 7 showed up at the office today. A lot of people are hoping that they will just get away with it.

@jn I like you. I’m in the grade range you specified and am probably smarter than you, but also probably less smart than many G6s and 7s. Let’s be real.

Don’t retire without sharing some wisdom? Intel isn’t the only company that requires lying and cheating one’s way to the top.

@k8

Upon further reflection, you are right!

I should conduct myself with the utmost respect toward a corporation that's going out of their way to disrespect us. The worse they make it, the harder I should work.

That'll learn em. 😅

@jn that speaks volumes about your character but if you had a conscience you wouldn't have done it. People working at Intel are aware of the high density of sociopaths among their coworkers.

@jq each and every ELT, Director, VP, Fellow, Sr.PE, PE have lied their way to there are today. Why not others ? This is why this company is where it is. If we had decent, hard working, true to the job people who wanted the best for themselves but also the best for the team and the company we would not be here today

I'm not saying anyone should or shouldn't adopt any of this, but just in case

Hilarious! Please reference for me the criminal statutes covering incorrect documentation. I'll wait.

FYI - oppositional relationships can cut both ways. Sorry not sorry 😉

Riding it out for retirement is one thing, but sabotage should not be tolerated.
If this is the case, I do hope you get caught, prosecuted and jailed as your retirement bonus.

been overhearing a rumor from managers emphasizing to badge in 4x a week no matter what in September. Haven’t heard what the game is, but I am assuming the data from this month will be used as the “attrition” in getting down to the 75k. My boss last week sent a note out to the team about their cubes not having equipment at the site they’re at but they needed to be in then heard another manager where I am discussing something twice now. Was hoping someone spilled the beans here

@g2 you can drag it out a long time.

  • come in once a week
  • when your manager after 2 weeks has the meeting with you and you need to come in everyday or else, then come in everyday for 2 weeks
  • then go back to badge in for 3 days for 1 hour say you were there all the time but then felt sneezy and didn’t want to give it to everyone
  • then come in 1 day make sure everyone sees you
  • then fall sick for 3 days
  • come in 1 day and then get covid ask your manager if it is ok for you to come in cause you think it is covid but current government thinks that covid is made up so you want to do the right thing and come into work
  • then come in and have your 1-1 with your manager in a small meeting room and cough and cough and blow your nose and say you are fine don’t worry your just recovering and not contagious

  • and so and so on good for

I'm gonna ride it out 100% remote for as many paychecks as I can and if/when I'm cut, I'll roll into retirement.

I'm not going to bother making it easy for the next poor schlub who picks up the work. Documentation will be a mix of current and obsolete info and I may omit a step or two along the way. Actively working on that now.

Have fun!

Do you realize that the RTO is meant so that the company can take disciplinary actions against employees who don’t want to comply? Disciplinary dismissals are not counted as group layoffs, and in such cases the company doesn’t have to pay severance.

75k employees by the end of the year - even after the current wave of layoffs, we’re still far from that goal.

@c1, that can only happen if the boss has no idea what his employees are doing. If you can get away without delivering any substantial results remotely, the trend will continue in the office.

@c9 please enlighten us. An unnamed reason is a pretend reason.

Also, what kind of a rebuttal is that? Assuming for the sake of argument that you are correct and there are very good reasons to RTO my argument that people are gambling with their jobs foolishly strengthens — because of your excellent RTO reasons, people should go IO.

“No good reason to RTO”

You may disagree with the reasons, but pretending they don’t exist is exactly that - pretending

A “can’t fire us all” attitude is a “you bet your job” that RTO isn’t precisely to let people go without packages

Since there’s no other good reason for RTO the way that Intel is doing it that seems like a d-mb way to bet but your funeral

@bg perhaps I needed a /s? Not RTO’ing is a voluntary way to get separated. No package though.

I know an engineer that goes to a few morning meetings remotely, comes in about 10, takes lunch then goes home about 3 and works remotely. Not sure if that is what they had in mind.

@OP
If bosses had made it a requirement that the remotely employed employees have to live in the state where hired then we probably wouldn't be in this mess. A friend had to fire a remote employee who was supposed to be living in AZ. When many attempts over several months failed to get the person into the office for meetings, IT department logged into his work laptop remotely, identified his location in FL and he was in a meeting with another company that he was using the laptop to work 2 jobs. It takes a few bad apples but I think too many individuals took far too much advantage. The boss could have easily implemented a home check randomly if people weren't attending meetings or getting their work done.

We’re still at 85K employees, need to be 75K…. You’re going to make it very easy for them.

@bd I don't think you will ever see voluntary packages again.

That was IDM1.0

Future exits will be ISP, termination for cause, badge flipping and having your business unit sold to another company.

VSP and ERP were bad policy, incentivizing people to hold on to their jobs like grim death, just waiting to get paid to leave, or in other cases, paying better employees (who could easily get another job) to leave.

ERP was treated like a retiree benefit and the company should just make it policy that voluntary separation will no longer be offered, so everyone can adjust their expectations.
