Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Hired less than a year, should I be worried?

I’ve worked at WF for nearly a decade and took on a new and more challenging role earlier this year. I plan to just start moving from role to role every year until I find something stable or this all ends. I’m guessing that if I was hired in March, I should be good until at least March of 2021. From my understanding, when I was hired they had to go through a lengthy process to approve the amount of employees being hired. Based on this, would it be wrong to assume that I’m safe until at least March or should I look elsewhere sooner?

Post ID: @jpp+18p8JLf7, stock price is what we call a lagging indicator. Wells’ stock price only fell after 18 years of false account openings, goosed numbers and too many other escapades to list here.

No, look for quality, integrity and straight shooting management. Not a stock price.

Make sure when you find a company to work for, it is doing well, stock price is good and its solid. When you join a company at the end of the rope you will always have a chance to be layed off.

Make a wise decision in a new company. Here may not have been a smart choice.

You’re very fortunate. Those of us in “non-hub” hubs have zero opportunity to advance or even take a lateral move. Nonetheless, you should still proceed cautiously. Even in the current environment, I wouldn’t trust that a hiring manager and those approving a new or backfill role would have the foresight or even care to ensure the role is not in scope for future layoffs. And even if they did, any subsequent layoff decision may not be within their control.

I, too, have been with the company for over a decade and started a new and more challenging role in the beginning of the year. Unfortunately, I was recently displaced. The fact that you have this new role, your resume should be updated to include the new role. I would not assume that your job is safe.

They are displacing so many new candidates that are employed in Q1- 2020. No ethics, this bank is trying to save costs where they can.
Best wishes to you!

@klr+18p8JLf7 I agree with this guy. I have noticed the people who are losing their job are the ones who's job shouldn't exist in 2020 or there are too many of that type of job. Wells Fargo is changing to be more of a fast paced and competitive environment. Its not there yet, but it will be in a few years.

You should be fine. People who getting removed from the company are the ones that are non essential and their job can be automated. If your think you are providing something unique to the company you are relatively safe. This is the truth.
