The encouragement to "look internally for alternate placements" is risible. The small number of openings are about equally divided between L1 execs, "early career" (read: cheap), and "low cost locales" (read: cheap). None of these overlaps with the highly experienced, appropriately pricey talent we've lost.

That's interesting. I was offered VERP in late February and was told (via the VERP Plan documentation) that the deadline to accept or decline was 4/1/24. Like you, I was concerned about declining and then getting let go anyway, so I accepted. If I had known that the VERP was a "guaranteed?" Plan B (at least through 2024), I would have declined and kept my full-time salaried job for as long as possible. This would also have increased the eventual VERP payout by increasing your length of service. Seems like most VERP eligible employees would do the same if this was known. So, I wonder 1) if this is legitimate? or 2) was the plan changed because of backlash? or 3) something else?
If this is legit, it sure would have been nice to know while thinking about my decision.
I was offered VERP (not ready for it) but worried about layoff and getting lesser package. I filed an HR ticket - they said VERP package would be in effect for 2024 for any employee impacted by restructuring.
With that, I declined VERP. But was then "restructured" last week. Haven't seen paperwork yet but was told by HR that I was getting the same VERP package.
I guess I won since I got an extra month of pay - leave May instead of April. Yippee! :-)
There is no job search service for those impacted. Just the same tools, portal, and service that is always available to every employee.
The 2 colleagues... did they get the access to the job search service that SAP provides to those laid off?
I know two colleagues who refused VERP and were then on the lay off list. They got the better of the two packages - the VERP.
Word is (and its only a "word" ... or two... I have nothing else to go by) that if you declined it, and then got impacted, you got the VERP package anyway.
But, like I said... no real proof of that.
Yes, this happened to a colleague of mine located in Montreal Canada. Cant imagine how much he probably regrets that decision. .
