Thread regarding Fiserv Inc. layoffs

Almost a year since I left, best decision I made

I left this company about a year ago as a software engineer and I can’t express how happy I am to have left this company. All of the posts are 100% accurate when it comes down to sapience, badge swiping, 9 hours in office per day etc. For those who are questioning whether to jump, please do yourselves a favor and apply for other positions.

There are so many other better jobs out there.. when I left for my new company I received: a bump in pay, less days in office, less hours spent in office per day, and landed in a more prestigious company with significantly more employees (who are much happier), and received work that feels more fulfilling than working on legacy systems.

Also, realize that unlimited PTO is a scam. Fiserv doesn’t let you take more than 2 weeks off at a time which is an outdated rule for most companies. Plus on top of that, if you do end up leaving, Fiserv does not give you any leftover vacation time since you are unlimited PTO. It’s a clever way to save the company money. I don’t think they are in the habit of giving (if any) severance if they choose to fire you.

Your direct manager is probably not at fault here, I believe it’s coming from a couple tiers higher and your manager is most likely just “playing ball”. I firmly believed before I left that they would eventually invoke 5 days in the office, I am happy to see that this isn’t the case. I had many colleagues who shared the same levels of stress that I shared, it’s very common at this job. I can see the company is still bleeding people as I have recruiters in my LinkedIn inbox constantly asking if I am interested in a role at Fiserv. Never again.

It’s called a victory lap…

And by the way I’m all for working hard for an organization but I need that organization’s leaders to show at least an ounce of loyalty to their subordinates otherwise the game is rigged and I’d be wasting my time.

There may be a few exceptions, but unlimited PTO is a scam, regardless of where you work.

You really do have to hand it to executives to recognize and subsequently capitalize on the meekness of the average employee and their te---r in being compared to others using any metric (ex - taking time off), all while having the jaw-dropping temerity to call it a "benefit".

I bugged out before that "benefit" hit my group, but had I hung around, I'd be taking a week off at the beginning of every quarter. I would've preferred taking more time in the fall, enjoying some extended weekends, but there's no way I would've taken the risk on losing rightfully-earned time.

If you’re so happy at your new company, why even waste your time thinking about Fiserv or posting here? It’s odd to have moved on, but be hung up on your old company. Maybe you’re just a benevolent soul trying to do good for mankind or maybe you’re a recruiter elsewhere trying to sell a story? In reality all companies expect people to do their jobs, work hard, and follow job requirements. Work is work at the end of the day. Fiserv is an industry leader, continues to outperform peers, and is stable. At least here, you know you’re not going to get bought tomorrow.

Wait until the job market returns. Mass Exodus Part III. Can’t wait. Most people are highly disgruntled here.

I concur. I did the same. Everyone should leave at the soonest good opportunity. Staying at Fiserv is doing yourself (and family) a disservice.
