Thread regarding Follett layoffs

This is the new Follett

What exactly did anyone expect? They bought a flailing company, they weren’t going to just let it continue business as usual. They need to make their investment profitable. Labor, and for YEARS through all of the leadership changes we have been told this, is our most controllable expense. Yes, others cut, slashed, diced, etc. our labor budgets and headcount for so there wasn’t much left to take. They spent the last year assessing, making changes along the way, but learning where they thought the opportunities were to adjust, keep the majority of people on board still, yes, be thankful some still have jobs, and redirect assets and labor to where they saw the best chance is to turn things around. A lot of people were collateral damage but there are new opportunities coming. This is the new Follett, leaner, not the same as it was even 5 years ago but, it isn’t going anywhere. Be thankful too that they’re trying something different and not the same old tired labor restructuring as before. The sun will rise tomorrow, this is going to sting for days but, there are some that will seize the opportunities that are coming and some that will be happy being the victim. To each their own but, support your peers, those who are gone and those who are choosing to trudge forward.

Apparently, more people need to read this. Bumped from @1xfh+1lL8jN15.

They are going to try to pin all the bad stuff on the CEO and then fire him to make way for the golden child, now that he’s gotten experience at a big company. Oh well! Maybe if he gets another job, he shouldn’t cover up harassment 🤭

It’s painfully obvious that it’s a job, not a career. This is especially true for anyone that got a demotion. We aren’t respected or valued. Update those resumes.

2koh+1m1Xe3MO: Ever look at the SMG survey results for your store? The complaints are there... OTC doesn't care.

But don’t say the new organization is about customer service being the priority when everything that leads to good customer service is taken away. 🫤

2pok+1m1Xe3MO: Someone that thinks they know everything when they run a small store. Other store's managers are lazy and deserved to be fired because she saw first hand they didn't do anything.. 🙄

As a SM that runs a small and profitable store and wear several hats I have always felt the larger stores around me have always had too much staff, too many full timers, that sit around most of the year doing nothing just waiting for rush while the small stores doing a lot in GM are struggling throughout the entire year to keep up. When you are the SM, do all the course materials, busy GM, shipping and receiving, etc when other stores in your region have numerous people doing those task it has always been so frustrating. Yes, they are busy during rush, but how often do you walk in to a large store that does mainly course materials and see no customers any other time while the full timers are all just hanging out? I have seen it a number of times. I think in those stores part timers and temps are all that are needed, I agree with the changes for a lot of stores, not all. I am wondering how I am going to do all I do with no staff. Yes, CM adoptions and ordering will be done by someone else, but now, since my asm is no longer, I am going to be the one doing all the "other" stuff regarding CM. Now that my asm is no longer, I will be doing all of the shipping. Now that I have no payroll hours, I will be locked to a register. No more book signings on my campus-won't be able to. No more off site sales, sorry AD, can't be at the Saturday football game-can't leave the store. So many services I have offered will be no longer. It isn't always about the sale at these events, it is a form of advertising, promoting the store, and connecting with our campus and customers.

I would say this is a corporate post. Why not have the ba--s to say we instead of they? Not every store is losing money so why didn't you look at those stores that are and figure out how to fix them? Quick fix but how many contracts will this cost you? I hope more than 1.

McDonalds cut corporate jobs. If you want to work at a franchise flipping burgers, you’re still fine!

Most places cut because they hired too much during COVID. Follett did not!

McDonald’s is laying people off.
Wal-Mart is closing stores.

Get out of your silo.

Thanks for making me feel good about my pay cut. Just what I needed to motivate me to make JRC Investors richer.

Look around, this ‘restructuring’ seems to be a trend in a lot of companies, corporations, big & small. Unfortunately hurting many good, loyal employees.

AND companies. Destroying your company too. Have you went into an establishment and just walked out because there was nobody there to help you?

Yea. Happy to be the victim of a massive paycut while losing my entire staff. Let’s all rejoice and celebrate the great folks running our company. They’ve certainly taken care of the employees
