Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

WTF! I just found out that Nike is being recognized as the best company for which to work in 2021 according to Glassdoor! I am in absolute disbelief and clearly realize that these sort of things are nothing but a marketing scheme. It seems that any company can just “pay” to be recognized. How in the hell and why would Nike of all orgs gets this achievement?!!!

as a person who left the swoosh 9 years ago, I kind of enjoy coming back to this forum when I know that a restructuring is taking place. let me share a few observations and experiences, leaving (on my own decision) was great as I have seen my career flourishing after I left within 9 years. I had worked for swoosh for 11 years before that. A reorg took place approximately every 3-4 years, Nike is very predictable in that respect, they do these reorgs anyway with or without global crisis. where I see the issue is the following: people in general want to keep working for Nike. by this I mean: people with different levels of commitment, different level of performance etc. what I know is noone wants to leave, therefore look at these reorgs as " shaking the tree to get rid of the bad ones", unfortunately good ones also suffer before the normal employee turn over is not there at Nike. employees of Nike do not seem to want any change, not the management, not the way company operates and expands, they do not want to change themselves, in most cases they do not want to work more because spending time in the gym, using all the perks is too sweet, because swoosh is cool, you get discounts to the hottest product. I know and met many people who do stuff that could get you fired on spot elsewhere, but many do these acts for years at Nike, I have seen sales reps seeing their customers only in showrooms, they have not visited even one store within their portfolio, I have seen people reselling the product and samples, I have seen people renting out their company cars to uber drivers while they are in the office or at home, I have seen KAM's charging their wholesale accounts consultancy fees for "serving" them etc. there is no other company which will allow these. on the other hand managers are not trained or therefore not good in managing their team's performance or career. everyone somehow thinks that they are the next big thing without really delivering anything more than fancy slides. it is an environment where HR does almost nothing for the employee because they think this is managers job, and managers do everything to advance themselves and almost nothing for their teams. lets say " everyone is for themselves, in good times and bad times". when I see that someone hates the company they work for, and want it to fail, it gives me the chills. personally I think swoosh should be at much higher place and much more successful without all these bad apples and what they do to the company. all I can say is " leave or change it if you do not like it", at the end it is you who make up the company you do not like.

@ifd, just respect other people's opinions and empathize. You do not have to get defensive. Ironically, that is the sort of attitude why so many employees do in fact hate Nike. Think about it.

Yes the grass can be greener on the other side. The idea that all companies are just as bad as each other is not true. Yes they all have negatives and positives and they all have frustrations for sure. But some companies are simply better fits for some people. Nike takes a certain type of person to weather the long haul. The politics can really wear on people. I found my energy was spent on things I don’t value and elsewhere that level of exhaustion is not there. I have worked at places that were worse and better. However I feel like as you progress in your career you can tell what a company will be like. Look elsewhere and if it seems like a better fit for you, go for it. It probably will be!!!!

Why wait until you hate something so much, you want it to fail? You need a little more introspection, my friend. All places are good and bad. Grass ain't greener on the other side.
