I already had several interviews (external) in progress before today's RTO announcement. And I'm not letting up until I'm out of here. It's not merely RTO, there's so many things that this place does and doesn't do that just don't resonate or align with my core values. I suspect that many others feel the same.
It's not RTO that upsets me. I knew it was coming. It's the fact that in every role I've been in so far, the business leads did not want to pay CPG for lease apportionment costs so they, not me, made the decision to move us to remote work 100%. Productivity was never impacted at all. Things still got done. Then covid hit.
Now, suddenly it's paramount that everyone be in an office 3 days a week. So, if I'm still here this Fall I will be going to an office in a state where my boss and absolutely nobody on my immediate team works in (in a hub), to collaborate with who?! Nobody, because nobody from my direct team is there. There would be a few people in the same function, but I don't work with them and there is no need to collaborate. Then, you won't have a perm desk and get to share desks, tantamount to sharing musical beds, each day, not knowing who touched the desk or keyboard that picked their nose at it yesterday and didn't wash their hands. This place is so accommodating and supportive of it's people - not at all. I knew it was time to start an aggressive job search and I've been hard at it since May. I suspect many others are as well.
What a Charade this is.
