Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

They have lost touch with reality

It is questionable how familiar this company is with employee marketplace today. I think they have lost touch with reality, which is most clearly seen in the fact that they want employees back to Campus?

Someone needs to tell those at the top that those times are over and that employees, new generations now want a lot more flexibility. Rarely does anyone want to sit in an office anymore.

It is laughable watching the HR shills claim they want to sit in the office and fight traffic for an hour each way on the way to and back from said office. At least try to make it somewhat believable. And if you are being honest, maybe finding a life outside the office would be the best move for you.

And it is also laughable that they are calling WFH a "pilot". Nearly everyone has been doing it for two years. Why not try honestly? Sorry, we need you to come into the office because our leaders spent all this money on shiny new buildings, their egos hang in the balance, and that they've arranged a tax break with Oregon, so sorry, but the lot of you are going to have to come in.

With freestyle/open office becoming prevalent it removes what little incentive to return to the office that existed. What's the end game? Are they trying to run everyone off and replace everyone from less expensive countries? Globalization seems like a bad move with Russia. Who knows if they will stop with Ukraine.

Everyone is dispensable in the world of Nike! That’s why all the good ones leave

Interesting the comment “everyone that I speak with “ because everyone at this point knows that at Nike you NEED to agree with the top leaders ideas. Maybe that is why you hear that from “your everyone” and the survey results showed a 50% only? Good for thoughts! “Blind is not the one who cannot see but the one who prefers to do not see it. “Grand ma wise phrase!

"I want to sit in the office." is a very sad statement.

I wouldn’t mind returning to the office if I actually had an office on campus like I do at home. Instead when we return to campus I’ll be sitting in a large room with dozens of loud people making it very difficult for me to be productive like I am at home. That type of workspace is also dehumanizing and bad for morale. Leadership doesn’t care though because they don’t have to directly deal with it. It’s another example of how they pretend to care but their actions consistently prove otherwise. I wish I could quit but with a kid on the way I can’t right now. Instead I’ll have to show up everyday pretending like I’m happy to be there. That gets tiring after awhile.

I'm in agreement, but this is much bigger than a Nike culture issue. Thousands of companies are figuring out how to adapt to the new way of life post-covid. There are so many factors involved, including technology, the way we work and communicate, company culture, financial/tax incentive considerations(very specific factor for Nike).

I am part of the remote work pilot due to the specialty of my role. I am NOT easily replaced. There are only 1000 people in the world that can do what I do for Nike. Consider that factor as well and diversify your skillset. Make yourselves indispensable. As the remote work pilot expands(it will), that is a primary factor being considered when HR is determining which roles to include.

It will take time for large organizations like Nike to realize times have changed and change the direction of the ship to align with the new needs of today's workforce. I would encourage you to have patience with Nike, but if you are able to find a remote role you like elsewhere, definitely go for it.

Times have changed. It's up to Nike to prevent the loss of talent from their ranks and it's up to the employees to leave if they don't. I would have been gone already if I wasn't remote and wish you all the best in finding what works best for you and your family's needs.

@hqv Sounds like you need some ACTUAL friends. We are not your friends. We are paid to tolerate you. Work is not a replacement for a social life, you freak.

Nike has been given significant tax breaks by State of Oregon to have employees working at WHQ (as in a corporate HQ campus). Nike needs black badges to starting to climb back over the berm in order to stay in compliance with those financial incentives.

Where they screwed up was introducing a pilot, only available to some. So, my colleagues who get to choose because they are part of the pilot have no commute time and no commute expenses. Ummmm...

Yes, I am looking for another job. And this is not the only reason. The leaders left are just abysmal: No leadership skills, low on experience, non-trusting, micromanagers.. pathetic.

Dont want to go back to office and complain about it? Do whatever suits youself and move on. Nike will thrive without you complainers. Just get out!

@xeq uh yeah, please. I’m over 40, have zero kids and couldn’t give a sh*t about working in the office. It’s silly to me that you would put an age limit on who enjoys the pleasures of working remote.

Nike will have no problem finding people that want to work on campus to replace you. There are hundreds, if not thousands, of white badges hoping for black badges under any circumstance. Plus all the naive people that don’t know what a dumpster fire it is to work at Nike who will line up. Nike has shown it considers all employees dispensable, they don’t care if you come back. They can hire younger and cheaper and in many cases want you to leave so they can hire contractors instead. Find an employer that appreciates you.

@xeq, excuse me? Do not generalize! I am over 40, married, have kids, and only want to work remotely from my home where my beautiful family is.

I want to sit in the office. Almost everyone I speak with wants to return to campus. Sounds like it’s you that lost touch with reality…
