Those I have heard from are astonished and have no idea what’s going on and it doesn’t make sense to anyone. Are they trying to drive us into the ground? Definitely feels that way. Why? Another notch in JD’s company destruction resume? That doesn’t make sense. Why? What happened? I want to know.

The culture and innovation have gone downhill in direct correlation to the increased number of people brought in from other failed/middling retailers and management consultants for their so-called “expertise” that long-term Nike employees were supposedly lacking.
No. She isn't in Tech and yeah that's absolutely horrible. At that point, there's no reason to even stick around. Go make better money somewhere else. Sadly, more companies outsource tech exclusively.
Your 25+ vet friend must not be in Tech...never seen morale so low lol.
How about the day when almost all of Tech found out they would no longer be Nike employees and would soon move off campus and work for a different company? This lay off is a few % nothing for the record books...just normal ebb and flow...
Risk aversion amongst stupid, self serving people leads to the situation that Nike finds itself in. Shheplike management behavior and no one willing to take risks with innovation.
Nike innovation used to lead design.
The true innovators were pushed out because they were expensive and disruptive.
Overall, senior leadership needs to be purged.
Innovation leadership needs it too. The top layer of NXT is criminally stagnant.
Eh this is not typical "ebb and flow" of Nike. Recently spoke to a 25+ year Nike veteran who reiterated a lot of what we all know. Lack of innovation, inventory fiasco, too much reliance on franchises, having no leverage with partners (Foot Locker etc.) She said she's never in her experience seen morale here so low. She also expects to be cut in this wave. JD has been an absolute failure.

To be OG Nike IT you need to have been at Nike during Footwear & Apparel IT org days, before SAP and before outsourcing to Lockheed Martin. Then you have seen this before....however Nike use to do a much better job at retraining than layoff in the early days.

You all realize the market has stagnated for everyone and Nike is still growing with the best margins in the industry, right?
What happened was mass saturation in and democratization of creating your own brand / startup etc . The the market is flooded by everyone.

What? I’ve been here 9 years, and not a single person is surprised. This may be bigger for the company, but for most vets it’s not as big as many of the previous ones that wiped out entire departments. Not a single one is surprised. I’d say I’m surprised it took this long.
2018 was peak Nike. It’s been only downhill since the start of consumer direct “offense.”
$2K catered breakfasts for summer interns for years...now its welcome back to reality.
Bottom line, we used to play to win. Now we are playing not to lose.
Maybe you need to talk to more OG employees...this is typical Nike ebb and flow....remember we use to make snow board boots, hockey skates, etc? We start trying to get into other markets spend a cr-p ton of money....realize it is not working and get back to our core. We are a running company. It has happened multiple times over the last 50 years. Too me looks like just more of the same as always we will come out stronger.
We shall know soon enough. Just relax and let it play out. There’s not much you can do to change the outcome at this point.
