Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Question for techies...

How does a company Nikes size not have an ADA compliant website? I heard about this from a friend that can not use our site as a result of her permanent disability.

Nike knows this issue exists as it’s been raised internally and externally. Not sure if they’ve been sued but legal is well aware of the noncompliance. Not surprising to hear it’s another “do the right thing” opportunity easily overlooked by a shortsighted strategy. It seems like this would be a bare minimum for a company of Nike's size that uses the disabled community in its advertising. Nike is failing its employees, consumers, and shareholders; responsibly is at the E & S-band levels.

recently the quality org has been trying to improve accessibility. I think europe has passed some laws that might require shopping sites to have some accessibility. However they hired some new director and promoted some QA engineer to Principle engineer that I doubt deserves it....so I have little hope that they will make much of a difference

Nike regularly settles lawsuits on this topic. It is cheaper to settle than to overhaul the website and apps. Certain lawyers know this and trawl for clients to go back to the settlement trough. Your friend should search one out and get a payday.

I second @haa

Employee here covered by ADA. They do nothing and don’t care

Having worked in tech, creating consumer and employee facing apps, I can tell you we never were directed to be compliant with any standards for disabled users. Then again, Nike isn't a very disabled-friendly place to work.
