Are managers notified in advance of layoffs for their specific locations? Our manager has been acting really strange the entire week. He seemed to be avoiding us, which is not his usual M.O. He also looked nervous. That has all of us on edge and worried. Could he know that layoffs are coming sometime soon?

I truly feel bad for anyone who still works for Truist at this point. Life is short, the job market is solid, and there are actually employers out there that will, get this, treat you with (gasp) respect. Employee treatment at Truist is NOT normal, and don’t let fear of leaving make you think it is.
I was around the executives at Truist enough to say I was absolutely shocked at the absence of empathy they have for employees - we are sub-human to them. They don’t deserve you, and you deserve much, much better than them. My friends and co-workers who have left Truist number in the dozens now - and there is one common theme I have heard from EVERY one of them - I can’t believe I didn’t leave sooner!!
There is only one department at Truist: The Department of Gross Incompetence! There used to also be a Department of Desperation and a Department of Wallowing in Misery, but all those people have left or been let go!
Which department?
Truist is a “purpose-based” company. It is run by SunTrust now, so it should be readily apparent what that “purpose” is.
The only thing that should shock anyone is if SunTrust were to do something that showed they actually cared about their employee base. As someone said earlier, a lame company run by lame executives…get out.
If your manager goes to an offsite “planning” meeting then rest assured they are planning how many and who to cut.
This company is…
You should be happy to if you get let go by that lame company. You CAN do better than Truist. You WILL do better than Truist. I believe in you! FREEDOM!!!!
Late October layoffs is the SunTrust way! Get off the books before the new year! Been going on for many years.
October, layoffs, duh, what a shock. If you’ve been around awhile it’s like Christmas in that it is an annual event. And yes the how many’s and in most cases the who’s have been decided. Last minute lobbying and deal making will make a slight impact but not much. Enjoy life and don’t worry about it.
Massive layoffs by end of this month is the rumor. And yes, managers know before it happens.
All layoffs will be completed end of year not to be on 2023 budget. Each month some you will see groups go with a 90-day notice but out of bank at 30 days. Work will be allocated to the remaining workers in the department, so pray you're in the layoff because this isn't good for anyone. Good luck my friends.
This is a big generalization, but it likely depends on your managers “level”. If he/ she is moderately senior, they would be given a “number” and would have to make “selections”. In this case, they would normally have known for a month or so. More junior managers are generally just given their list of names, and would only know for a short period.
Managers are typically notified at the end of the day prior to an announcement.
It not even Halloween and I found a clown
I am the Nightrider. I'm a fuel injected su----e machine. I am the rocker, I am the roller, I am the out-of-controller!
Massive layoffs are coming EVERYWHERE, not just at Truist. As the Nightrider said in Mad Max: "You should see the damage, bronze. Huh? metal damage, brain damage. Heheheh. Are you listening, bronze?"
It's coming, and you smell it, yes there is a big layoff coming, and it's bigger than you might imagine. It will happen in areas that have had limited RIF's. I heard Treasury, Deposits and some analysts that are paid more than what they are producing. Hang tight and keep notes. Anytime you have a new CFO people are laid off, so he can get his teams in the bank. Good luck and God Bless, yo don't deserve this,
I agree. I noticed the same thing with my manager. My manager seems avoidant and semi checked out.
