Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

What’s with the recent push for Subsurface talent management?

The floodgates opened a month or two ago after a year+ of absolutely no guidance. It’s like someone flipped a switch and all of a sudden, employee growth is important to CVX again. Seems like there is an email or engagement every week on this. I’m not upset by the change - it’s refreshing to see, frankly.

What led to this change in attitude from the corporation, and what’s the underlying motivation? Is attrition that bad? Call me skeptical but I don’t believe they read the CES and created this program solely in response to it.

In other companies, you get hired for a role and you stay in it. If you want growth with better title and higher pay, you move to another company. A chevron, growth really does mean increasing your experience in different roles. Chevron is so segmented that most people can't really keep up with people outside of Chevron where skills are concerned.

@kt - to the upper management, career growth is your ability to gain experience in new roles/locations. Yet, most employees seeing gaining the experience means promotions, increased pay. Yet, then management doesnt pay for the increased experience, so their "growth" is by experience only.

They are halting promotions and are trying to convince you there is still room to "grow"

Wow- same people that haven't being doing it now want to focus on it. I remember before 2020 when there were leaders that didn't do it as a directive but because it was important to them. They all left voluntarily and this crop of leaders emerged and have done nothing for 6 years but now want to change. Unreal - Get new leaders that lead and don't follow

They realized that the HESS guys were leaps and bounds better technically and something had to be done.

I've been noticing the same but I thought it was just part of the new PDC process. So there's more meaning behind it than that? I did hear that they're wanting to make more people capable of being able to plug into lots of different spots though. Though that was from an engineer and not a petrotech.

Attrition is that bad. Anticipate another round of departures after March bonus. Ironically, their messaging is tone deaf probably pushing more out the door.

They realized that the younger generation of workers who are left are mostly useless.
