Thread regarding Humana Inc. layoffs

This is a long time thing.

Before taking a job at Humana I hope people navigate to this place. The posts you see represent at least the last 10 years of Humana's behavior toward it's employees. You are expected to go above and beyond your role. You are expected to follow the company line. Humana Human resources are their to protect the company NOT YOU. The Ethics line is outsourced and overly complex and again designed to protect the company. DEI is a ruse to stop the messes from rising up. Employee is pitted against employee especially when they mention a RIF. Don't expect to be valued, you can only move up if you are agreeable to senior managers. You will be over worked, your pay increases will be tied to impossible goals often way beyond your control. Change is touted as progress when it's actually a chaotic move to cover the stupid decisions made previously. If you are thinking of a role at Humana check your mental health because you are about to be stressed beyond reason.

Work on the Centerwell side and I can tell you no one is happy. And now they send out another email trying get the old people 50 and over with more than 3 years of service to retire early . What is going on that they aren't telling us. Isn't this age discrimination!?

It is what you make it. If you’re a pain in the —- , you won’t do well. Reset your expectations and do your job well, you’ll be fine.

@j0 Some local markets foster healthy work life balance but not all! Some are more toxic than corporate, but clinical ops takes the p-o cake award!

It really depends on what team you are on. In the local markets it's more of a 'family' environment. Yes the workload is heavy but I have found it to be the same at other companies I've worked for in the industry. We have great local leaders that foster healthy work life balance. Many people that leave return when they find the grass is not greener.

@gf We have been hearing that we would not be around much longer since Bruce was named CEO and here we are.

You know and I know we have the wrong people in management positions.

Just go with the flow and know it will be over.
You will not be here in 10 years. So plan accordingly.

Agree that it is a toxic situation and leaders do not want to put the effort in to change. SNP doesn't like "outsiders" i.e. people who haven't been with SNP since inception because the system was poorly set up and is now horribly convoluted and difficult to comprehend to people coming in from another department. Instead of recognizing this and revamping the whole department they avoid hiring "outsiders" and treat them poorly if they are brought in. If a department is so complicated no-one can be hired and brought in then obviously the department structure is horrendous. I have been in meetings with other "outsiders" where they have literally said they hate hiring "outsiders". Hello we are right here .... Also if you have only had your preferred "Insiders" and you have made such a dogs breakfast of your department, I wouldn't be that proud of it.

@OP agree with all, especially that remaining is tied to agreeing with senior leaders, and multiple "strategy" changes which are literally the same as the previous with minor changes. Metrics are made up to suit next rifs. Yet here we are and those stuck stay unfortunately like bad relationships: no other option in this economy.

Yes, gone downhill in past 10 years. Current leadership is all new with little or no healthcare experience

@OP I have said the same thing regarding HR and have also been with H >10 years like you. This was a great company to work for until about 5 years ago. It is toxic, oppressive, and chaotic. Leadership is punative and incompetent. I have a good friend who works on the centerwell side and she has told me horror stories about their leadership team- even worse than the H side if you can believe it.
