Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

The union cares more about its retirees than its current active members.

I’m not saying we should give up on retirees. I hope I make it there one day. I’m saying I need help now!!

Not true… The Union cares about the Union….you have to remember the Union is a business not any different than Verizon…Verizon has employees as does the Union but they are classified as “ members “

Unlike Verizon who pays its employees…The Union “ members “ pay the Union … but interesting it’s the members who do the work for the Union

Each work stoppage ( strike ) the Union has called produced gains for the only the Union … NOT its members in fact they sell the deception of less givebacks as victories … even though they are always givebacks … fact check … what has the Union member ever gained in these strikes other than the standard 2% 2% 3% raises that every employee in America gets without a Union … the Union however has received guaranteed employment hiring … carding wireless divisions.

Bottom line the Union fights for their survival and use todays “ membership “
as their soldiers…. In return the members pay more into medical get less medical they also get a terrible pension you can’t retire on and of course the embarrassing 2% 2% 3% raise which goes right back into the new cost medical anyway.

Healthcare:
$76/mo 2023, $275/mo 2024 and $575/mo in 2025.

1987-2023, gave up a lot of raises to keep healthcare, yuge mistake!!

Obviously another management post trying to poke .I think most with few of the very young understand. We have what they fought for.Verizon is not a big happy place .They pretend to love their employees but they despise them.

Anon, AKA, @g9+1k22jqh17, They walked the LINE with me, even though retired.

I wear red each and every Thursday as a tribute to a fallen brother who put his life on the line back in '89 to make sure that our medical remained free, even into retirement.
However we diminished this man's ultimate sacrifice to the cause by caving on medical.

Held the line they vote yes for all these contracts. Hasn't been a real a strike since 89. They vote sell out the hires. Ups held the line on pensions and healthcare and we caved. Personally I will never for a contract with give backs. The current member owe nothing to the retires. We even loss Healthcare Cost of living adjustment retirement benefits our pension is like 30 percent of base should be closer to 50

If they scr*w with the retirees, non of us will be able to retire. We will all need to work until the age of 65, package or not

Terry and Paul telling people to make sure they take care of retirees only. That Mothership is foul

I disagree. The retirees issue will be to make them pay more. Unfortunately I don’t think they have a strong influence on the contract, which is wrong because they held the line so others could follow. Not saying contracts have been great in the recent past, but they were out there. Just sayin
