Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Things change, deal with it

People here act like Nike is the only place that has changed in the past decade or so. Everything has changed - the world, other companies, even the people you know. Trying to stay in the past has never been good for anybody. We don't have to like the changes that are happening. We also don't have to stay at Nike and pretend that we like it. But complaining about the changes is fruitless. Either change with the company or leave for somewhere else that is more aligned with who you are.

@fyc you wrote “I think most of the folks on here are in their first jobs out of college and just assume Nike is different”.

That is my impression as well. When I hear people complain about how “horrible” of a place Nike is I have to wonder if they’ve ever actually worked anywhere else. I turn 52 in August and Nike is my 5th employer. For all its faults it has also been my best employer. By far. I also know several people who left Nike and later regretted it. They didn’t realize how good they had it until they went to another company and only then discovered that what they disliked at Nike exists everywhere. And yes most of them were younger people.

It’s also useful to remember that the vocal minority on this forum hardly represent the viewpoints of all 75,000 employees. The recent engagement survey did not suggest that things at Nike are as bad as some people on this forum would have you believe.

The irony of your post is that Nike is trying to do just that: pretend the times haven't changed. COVID changed the dynamic between management and worker and Nike is trying like damned to pretend it's 2019 and this all never happened.

Good luck with that attitude. Have you tried talking to any Nike recruiters about how tough their job already is? Have you tried filling open positions on your team? Nike is too cheap to retain most top-tier talent, in addition to the fact that no one wants to live in cr---y Portland. It’s only going to get harder with the direction Nike is taking.

HR staff, perhaps fueled by McKenzit and Banes are starting to feel the heat on all this.

The people in power at Nike, are not the people that create value at Nike, now they got to ride a GRAT stock bubble, good on them for being on the inside, but now, they just want to wear masks and tell people to conform, but it is not working, the flame of change is coming for them.

Expect some unusual retirements to be announced real soon.

HR, stay off the forum, your light weight manipulations are pathetic and embarrassing.

Personally - I don't work for Nike but people need to get a reality check and come to terms that Nike is a company. I think most of the folks on here are in their first jobs out of college and just assume Nike is different but they are probably just like any other employer (basing on what I've seen on here). There is always passive aggressiveness, as-----s, bros, terrible bosses, stupid HR policies, performance reviews that mean nothing, etc...

Maybe small starts up have a presumed better culture? But reality is eventually they end up here. Anyway... I think the best way to describe this forum is more like "Never meet your Heroes."? In this case, never work for your favorite company.

Anyway - I work for a banking company, so what the he-l do I know about Nike's culture. Take it or leave it.
