Personal finance tip - Metro SHS Tax

I was impacted in Feb, and honestly, one of the most cool things I miss is the #personal finance Slack channel. I would have asked this there (or actually someone would have already asked and would have gotten responses)... but now I have to ask here. Got a letter from City of Portland about Metro SHS tax. I thought we were getting deductions from our paychecks, so why do I need to pay it again? Is there a way to find out if indeed it was deducted from our paychecks in tax years 2022, and 2023?

If you are a joint filer, it has no idea what your spouse makes, so you will have to do the calculation during tax time anyhow.

@fsm+1rTgCgWg - I believe it is #cop-personal.finance
If you look up finance, it should come up.

Only deducted automatically if your salary is over 200k. You need to manually adjust withholding on workday.

I wouldn’t bother telling HR to update these details, much easier to just calculate it yourself after you file taxes. Having someone else do it will help if you don’t want sticker shock of paying 1500$ or whatever you owe.

But my personal opinion, don’t let them do the withholding and calculate it yourself. The math is pretty simple.

Can someone share the slack channel the OP is referencing? Didn't know one existed at NIke.

Similar here. It was deducted for me. Found in each paystub deductions as 'Metro Supportive Housing Servic' and in W2 the year total is in boxes 19 and 20 ('Metro SHS'). Used Tax software to file form 1040, etc at end of tax year and got small refund from the city with direct deposit in same way that Fed or State process.

For me, Nike did deduct some but the deductions only covered about 80% of what I was supposed to pay. When filing the tax on the Oregon tax website it will ask you questions about your w2 and OR-40 and it will calculate from that how much you owe.

Box 19 and 20 on my w2 show the METRO deduction. You can also update how much you want withheld for this tax in the HR portal

Have a look at your pay stubs....to my knowledge Nike is NOT deducting the Metro taxes.
