Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

A company isn't a family.

A company isn't a family. Parents don't fire their kids for low performance or furlough them in hard times.

A better vision for a workplace is a community—a place where people bond around shared values, feel valued as human beings, and have a voice in decisions that affect them.

Is it a failure if tanking morale was the entire purpose from the get go?

To get the team members working extra hard for no extra pay. Use the term, "family" and the employees/dolts start salivating.

It's American propaganda as usual. create buzzwords to dupe the masses and they go running to the sugar pile. works every time. think of the same dolts who wear multiple masks in their cars driving alone. clown show US empire

A better analogy would be a Low Security Prison (Full disclosure, I've been there).

At a Low Security Prison you have to perform menial labor, you are required to be a member of a Block (ie, a Team), you have a Supe (a team lead), you have a Warden (a manager). And in a Low Security Prison you are fully able to walk off the grounds and disappear (ie, to Quit), with the understanding that hardship (loss of income) will ensue.

And at a Low Security Prison you eventually get paroled (ie, Retire) after which you shed all the BS and your life gets easier.

Companies only uses the term "family" when they need something from their employees. Just a manipulative tactic to get employees to slave away to accomplish an agenda without paying out more. If employees are really considered "family," they would be paid better and be given free meals and board like a real family would do for their own members. And pay 100% tuition like family would. And guarantee lifetime job security and WFH. And CEO would share his/her salary and bonus with his/her "family." Now that would be more in line with being a "family."

I pity anyone who called Wells a family at any point, even before Charlie.

Maybe you don't know, but Mr. Fargo Sr. was a rabid profiteer who sent his own family on a doomed wagon out west. I'm sure you didn't know, but facts is facts.

“We’re a family” is corp speak for “We’re a cult, I’m the leader, and you had better follow me like the Manson girls followed Charlie - or else”.

Most places that describe themselves as "family" are led by the indestructible alpha male Vin Diesel, living life a quarter mile at a time. Does WF have a Vin equivalent? Take your pick from the C-suite.

RTO is a ridiculous failure.

Employee morale is in the toilet. Everything's delayed, inaccurate.

Yep, 100%! While there are definitely some workplaces out there that pull it off, most places that use the term "FAMILY" to describe their internal structures have lots of toxic workplace norms.

In my experience, bosses who use that term generally ask for far more loyalty and trust than they show their workers, and expect their team to make unfair and unhealthy sacrifices for the business.
